A Few Pics from the Smallbore Sil Nationals

My wife has gone to Phoenix in September to visit her close retired co-worker friend every year. This year it is the first week in October. Her husband is also a good friend of mine and have not seen him in 4-5 years since relocating to Phoenix. Anyway, if Nationals are in NM., 2012, we would take a vacation drive in that direction in August. That brings to mind, we have old friends in Austin, TX, that we have not seen in years and years! Next year would be for some nice reunions. Also, it would be nice to meet others on this board who posses a wealth of knowledge. If Mary is not so over whelmed, maybe she will have time to give me some pointers/suggestions or a lesson............................within reasonable price!

Pat, I did mail our Beloit announcement to your Sycamore Club early last week. Perhaps you have mentioned to others. It is always nice when you make the long journey to be with us. Trophies and wood plaques are really nice this year. Save one for me....would you??

TT and Daddio, when I tried to get Greg to commit to a date for next years nationals (2012), I got a lot of run around. Seems that it will be decided sometime in October or November that the committee will make a decision as to the dates.
Raton is one of my favorite smallbore ranges to shoot, although I must admit very challenging, with a compound incline from one corner of the range to the other. Overall worth the trip to wee andstay at the Whittington Center at least once, the match itself is not as relaxed and a smooth as Ridgway, the club there has some GREAT people supporting it and some fo the best line command calls I have ever heard. Thanks Dave (range officer) and his wife Marie for running a smooth stat office.

As for pointers, coaching or any other assitance, anytime TT. You coming to FL in the winter/spring, or do you know yet?

Depending on what politics goes on at work, I should be in CO for their smallbore states next month...but with the fine Obama lovers leading no telling what will happen.

Inno, yes a year+ or so ago we had planned to take a few months in FL. I became to involved with one of our local elementary schools in our low income district.
I volunteer an average of 5-6 hours a day in different class rooms to assist teachers/students with reading and math. I also help with pre-school. Last April at the state PTA convention dinner, I was awarded the 2010-11 PTA Volunteer Year Award. I gave a small acceptance speech and was told by my wife I had most in tears while trying to hold back mine. This will be my 3rd year as a volunteer at the school and just can't give it up. So many kids in need of a friend, tutoring, or being a mentor. My summers are spent 3 afternoons a week at the Boys & Girls Club. This takes precedence over everything else. Teachers and students are depending on me and I love what I do. I found my calling to give back. Twice a year we get as far as Birmingham and Atlanta for a break. Then I have a Little Bros from BBBS that is going into 4th grade this year with 3 BBBS lunch buddies. One of the Lunch Buddies is in middle school. My wife has been so supportive. Wherever the Nationals are next year, I will make plans, except CA.

TT..now CA is one state I haven't shot in yet...and still intend to but I agree that a nationals there would be one that I would probably skip.
Tutoring youngsters and mentoring a reading program can be rewarding and I admire you for doing so much. Too many parents no longer take the time to read to the youngsters, and encourage them to read. Keep after it, there are many life skills that the younger generations are missing, just ask jjp he let Baby Huey camp with him on his last night at Ridway. I didn't get much sleep as the conversations in the tent next door were hilarious, not to mention the bear stories and flashlights coming on every time a bug flew into the tent.

So BH you ready for another trip with jjp and I, we promise to make sure you are a little better equipped this time?

I have the entry form...still waiting on work's response to my annual trip to Golden which starts on the 17th, otherwise I would committ to shooting in CA for a change. I know Steiger, that means I would miss the Texas nationals.....but then the opportunity to sleep in Garretts room would be up to jjp!, unless of course you have E's room avaialble now.

Actullay would like to make CO HP but it is a rough weekend here in FL so I may have to settle for what ever work will allow and that may only be SB.

BH, Yes at this time TN states are in the plans and you are welcome to ride with me if you can handle it. Remember it gets cold in TN at that time of year, and I will be at the motel probably rooming with Pink 22 but I'ms sure we can find something for you.

Just tie the boy up to a pole outside, put him a bowl of water and some crackers where he can reach them if he doesn't get tangled up in his own leash....At least that's what we used to do with our Great Dane....worked out pretty well and there is not much difference between the two.

If I remember that's what they did with BH the next to last night at Ridgway and he was howling all night and whining to be let in because of the bears.

Boy do I remember that! Probably the dumbest thing I said all trip. I woke up the next morning and one of my darn toes were numb. What are the dates for Tenneseese?

Never have tried HP and never got around to going to Lodi, WI., to try it out with one of our club members. If we had at our club, I would have another rifle!
They have a great group there and sometimes come to our club for our one Sunday a month match for SB. Their hunting stories have you rolling on the floor with their ATV's, logistic difficulties in coordinating positions, what they are trying to track and where. All 4 of them are talking at once every time they visit us.

Although I'm going to try like heck, I don't think you'll have to worry about me taking one those awards from anyone. With our range hours being so limited, combined with work and family obligations I just haven't had the opportunities to practice that I hoped for this year. I did get out last weekend to practice at 50 yds at some chicken targets that I printed. The range was just too crowded and I had guys shooting centerfire on both sides of me including a group of young guys blasting away with military weapons. I was happy when the young guys finally moved down the line to shoot handgun but a few minutes later a guy shooting 12 ga slugs replaced them. It makes it difficult when you're trying to get the crosshairs on a chicken and a guy pulls the trigger on a slug gun right next to you. So, needless to say, it was really hard for me to get in any meaningful practice. So, I'll continue to practice at home aiming at the wall and I guess I'll use the few matches I get in for live practice. At this rate I'll never get out of A class. So much for my goal of making AA this year.

Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to mention the WI state match to any of the silhouette shooters at our club. They only hold one match a month (4 matches total) at Sycamore and it was raining the morning of the last match 3 weeks ago. So we had only 3 shooters show up. The rain slowed to a light sprinkle before the match so the 3 of us shot. We were able to get the match in without getting wet since we only had to reset targets once between the two 40 shot matches. We have our last match this Saturday and I'll mention your match to those who attend. However, I don't think anyone besides me has attended a NRA sanctioned smallbore match this year so they won't be qualified to shoot the WI state match.
