Okay....and my error. All steels are alloys of iron with the carbon content varying and the addition of other elements like nickel molyddenum, chromium, silicon, etc. Stainless has a high carbon content and varying chromium etc. I was incorrect about its identifying number....its a 3 digit beginning with 2,3,4, or 5. Rifle barrels in stainless are preferred in the 4 range like 416r (high carbon with chromium and molybdenum and nickel in these Martensitic stainless steels. No one questions your wisdom ,,,oh great western guru
