all my split brass in nickle. 1980 different head stamp nickle brass that was used in a contender then later over to a marlin 1894. but age and many reloads is what got my brass. expand the case to much and a heavy crimp will hurt the brass in the long run.

I have loaded several thousand 38 and 357 magnum pistol loads. I had very few split cases. I keep the loads on the mild side. I did not load them hot.
Now I am loading .357 magnum for my Henry rifle for slihouette. I expand the mouth of the case only enough to get the bullet started.
I am using 5.5 grains of Power Pistol with 125 grain Hornady and it takes all the PC targets down without amy problems. I am using the same load for the big bore chickens and pigs without any problems.

I had the same issue with my expander. Put it in a drill and polish it with fine sand paper so just the flare works the brass.
