I was just browsing the latest edition of "Shooting Sports" and there was an article about a book by Nancy Tompkins titled "Prone and Long Range Rifle Shooting"

Is anyone familiar with this book? From the article there is a lot of information about wind, mental training, traveling, reloading for long range, etc. I'm gonna wait until I hear from our resident experts about this book before I put out $34.95.

It is a good book and has a good section on conditions.
In regards to the original question, Tubb’s book has a good section on conditions as does Jim Owens. Although all three are directed to XTC and long range prone shooting and not silhouette shooting, the sections on conditions are good.
All three have given me good tips and a good base for reading conditions.

I'm happy I spent the money on all three.

Okay, I can understand the spotter how about what kind of spotting scope to buy power brand that sort of thing?
Stupid question, does the same spotting scope work for small bore as well as for big bore?
Prefer to buy a scope once. Any suggestions would be great, I am starting in small bore with a desire to gve the big bore a go as well.

Any good one works well for both. Kowa, Swarkovski, Leica, etc... are the top of the line and have a price tag to match. Like any optics you get what you pay for. One key element to look at is eye relief. The more you have the easier it is for those wearing glasses to see through with out having to take your glasses off. A 20X (or more) is usable for both. One option is the high power binoculars as using both eyes allows you to see the shots better and is less eye strain on the spotter.

Don't forget Nikon in that spotting scope line up.
