Oh my. Let me see - is that a Texas rifle maybe?
Which action - 700 or 722 pattern - and what barrel?

It's a 722 pattern... built in October of 1957. (Anyone remember Sputnik?) Got it as a bbld action figuring to rebbl... made the mistake of dropping it in a test stock and testing it. Decided I'd cut and crown to get the wt down and try it again before buying a new bbl... I don't think many top line bbls will beat it enough to warrant changing. Had to do some ironing on the chamber/breech area.... it'd been dry-fired a lot but I don't think it'd been shot that much. Remington is generous with their firing pin protrusion so you never want to dry fire a 40X... no good will come of it.

Okay, you have my attention! How long is the barrel? And it makes weight for Hunter class? Is the 722 pattern 40x lighter than the 700 pattern 40x?

The bbl was cut and crowned @ 21.5" where it was .780" diameter and with the other (see original post) improvements it makes wt easily. Shown wearing B-Square rings and a Weaver T-24... there are lighter arrangements out there. It has no butt pad, just a carbonfiber plate (from Mark P) and some non-skid tape. The 722 is no lighter than the 700 action... both are pretty hefty. It does have a shorter bolt handle by a little. Shown here with the other 40X... a 700 action for comparison... showing the different bolt handles.
