Stock and gun fit is a very personal thing. Most Rifle shooters deal with the gun as is and within the individual disciplines rules. If you shoot some sort of "Free" rifle. 10 M Air gun, Schuetzen, International type small bore etc. many adjustments are available that may or may not make the gun work better for you. I set my Schuetzen rifles stock up to be exactly the same fit as my old Anschutz Super Match which had full adjustments available in every area, had tried about all the tweaks and had it like I wanted it. Laid on top of each other hook butt plate palm rest comb height everything exactly the same.

Shotgun shooters fit is almost a fetish lot of dollars spent altering guns, lot of it wasted, some well spent. I have hundreds of bucks invested in bending stocks on old SxS doubles just to get a half inch higher comb. Works better for me and worth it. My modern Sporting clays gun has adjustable comb up or down and change the butt plate winter to summer to compensate for thick clothing.

Point is it has to work for you and most of what you read is advice that suits the person giving advice not the one needing advice. Way I have always gone is make changes with something temporary see if it works then go for a fixed alteration very carefully. Small-bore Silhouette with a Hunter class gun not a lot you can do and stay in the rule other than raise the scope or lengthen the pull. One affects the other, either one can be changed short term to see how things work out. My 1712 is out of the box stock. Lot I would like to do to it, none of which will pass a rule check, so leave it alone. There are some tricks you can play with the Hunter Gun to make it fit, if the stock is too short thick recoil pad inside your shooting vest will do about the same thing as a longer pull. I can't use a high buttplate hold without my shooting vest with it's recoil pad on, Not enough butt plate touching to get much support when wearing a regular shirt, and the pad pushes the rifle further away just like a longer pull would.

The vest is subject to rules too !!!

I think you made a bad assumption teetertotter. It has been going on for a real long time. There is NOTHING in the rule book about 'length of pull. With a custom stock on a hunter rifle you can make it just about as long or short as you want. Modifying a stock, as long as it looks like a hunter stock, is permitted as long as it stays within the dimensions stated in the rule book.

True It just has to fit the Jig. Lot of slip on ways to extend LOP to try and see. Longer term fix guy that works on my shotguns does wonders with short stocks. Grafts on new wood you can hardly tell it's been done. Hundred bucks or so.
Just make sure longer is what you need with a slip on first. And if shooting cold weather check with heavy clothing too.

Thanks for looking it up. Been to darn lazy with darn arm in a brace out of commission. Volunteer as a driver at the Veterans shelter and re-hab ctr and can't do that. Other areas I volunteer requires getting up early and that is not in my plan right now. One arm bandit. I'll visit the rifle clubs Wednesday morning indoor group and have their $2.00 special lunch + get the usual
razing as most of them are Pistol and BR. I don't mind being the odd ball, as are a great group of guys. Ever need something, they are johnny at your door. Pistol Director fixed my 2008, 39as couple months back. No more FTF's
