That's a bizarre looking snake, is it normal for them to be that thick or is it a zoo specimen?

Just read about the snake, creepy, doesn't normally bite humans but when it does it's not good.

The 1712 has a big advantage that isn't mentioned above. If you decide your sick of shooting. You'll get pretty much what you paid for it in a couple years as used 1712's are so sought after.

Now, speaking of the sako. We have a new shooter at Tacoma that has shot his way to master class faster than I've ever seen and he went the sako route as he felt the sako fit him better. This guy (damn if I can't remember his name) has a lot of 3 position experience and uses an Anschutz 2013 for his other game so clearly it's not a weird contrarian thing (we have a couple of these types as well, won't use an Anshcutz or Leupold scope for the sake of being different).

If the sako really does fit you better don't let the crowd sway you. You're the one on the shooting line not somebody whispering in your ear.

Either way. Welcome to the sport! Have fun and fingers crossed you might get to meet some of the monkeys on this site if you ever come over to our nationals to show us how folks how it's done in Africa!

Very best regards! :ymcowboy:
Bad news : The 1712 has been sold pending licence approval so put my name on the reserve list if the potential buyers licence does not work or go thru . so for now back to the drawing board. X(

For now think I will just stick with the 880 Marlin and use a better grade of Ammo for league shoots and see if that works. If I shoot a bad set scores are late to mid 20's and on the better days early to mid 30's so really looking at improving my avg with 5+ points to be more competitive.

Improving 5 avg point can be done without a new rifle I think . - busy buggering up my own fairy tale with facts

I will give the SAKO another look but did not speak the same language as the Annie first go around.

The std stock of the Marlin is a little Short for me , and maybe get it to fit better, I see there is a company Boyds that make aftermarket stocks and one in particular the Evolution

What is the verdict on this stock is it compliant to MS shooting or will Rifle be in different class.

Jim Beckley wrote:Thanks for the pic. Some of the guys that shoot silhouette have been to Africa to hunt, they said that there is an area they hunted that had some spitting cobras and they had to wear glasses, any of those in your area?
Yep those are pretty common and several run ins with them.
There are a few variants but the real common one is The Mozambique Spitting Cobra "Mfezi " . Mostly they will only get annoyed when cornered
and give a few hisses and blows before they spit - get away their aim for eyes is spot on up to 12feet.

The real nuisance is for Dogs , if I have to tell how many Dogs are hit in the eyes by these and then the drill to wash out eyes repeatedly with Milk and then takes a good week or so to normalize again - if lucky , had a foxterrier that took 6 hits in a 15yr life span.

Stock is not legal for silhouette, you could always have two stocks for it though.

Nicely stocked gunshop!

That's what I figured , very nice rifle but to pay $3000 for a barrelled action and then needing other stock and all the other stuff - bit too enthusiastic :D

This weekend it was pretty clear what the majority uses and what is used on the range

1x 1712 Anschutz
2x 1416 Anschutz
12x CZ/Brno 1month to 29 years old.
3x Marlin 880's 2x880 stainless and my 880sq
1x Savage
1x Ruger 10/77

to up the game going to have to be a Anschutz or keep what I have . That's the long and short of it

here is our outfitters website - ROE today is 11.54 ZAR ( Rand ) per $1 so devide by 11.5 to get $

Well Well Well ,

What a interesting day , in my search for the ultimate Silhouette Rifle , I held and fondled a brand new Anschutz 1712 with a match trigger .

The rifle that was supposedly sold was a 1710 with sights and standard trigger - the salesman is learning his Annie model numbers fast now.

And so I did a bad bad thing .........

I had it along side 3 CZ's a Sako Quad , a 1416 Anschutz and can now understand why . It just sits and feels right , bolt glides like butter and looking down the barrel can see the Hammer forging tell tales .

For a entry level , mid range rifle the 1416 will do but the 1712 in a different league.

So now the wait and admin begins to get the rifle on my name . Price in SA after haggling for the 1712 - $1740.

Super Stoked as this is what I really wanted :D
