These do work well but fortunately for this club, the range is dedicated so they can stay up. The high stand also allows us to shoot over the 1/2 size chickens so range width is saved. At the Pemi Fish and Game I have a chicken box that is similar that I pull in after every match. I think it will be improved when I put a large mesh screen on the bottom and have an angled steel backstop that drops in behind the animals. It will save filling and dumping sand each time.

Good job John.These pig berm stands work very well on the pistol and lever match range without an extra ground berm.The Grouse or "partridge"is a wild pet at this range.

Sadly I lost my HD and like so many.....a back up did not exist. Pictures of backstops is always and interest. In Texas, where I was introduced to this vexing sport, most backstops were steel. I recall the first time going to the Sunshine Classic and had the pleasure of a dirt and tire backstop. WHOA! Them metal backstops sure help you figure out what went wrong.

Most of the NH ranges are white or at least light sand berms. Some are the kind of sand where the chicken can be lost forever in fine sand. As such screens are put up behind them and shooters have to shovel the sand up to the top to keep the berms up. This also is the reason we shoot on black animals. Seeing a white animal on near white sand is not much of a contrast. You get used to it after a while.

As for range Set up, Here is a link to a picture I no longer have the original file. The range is set up to shoot 1/2 Cowboy and 1/5 Smallbore simultaneously. Thus the need to save width to get all the correct distances. 50 yard berm is right in front of the 60m pig boxes. And the turkeys are set to 77m and 75 yards, you just can't see it. Rams are all 100m and chickens are all 40m.

This is a very nice range to shoot at.If traveling,hotels during tourist season and Nascar can be trouble.Camping was available.

All good ideas here guys, but I don't think any of these ideas will work except maybe individual rods and stands for each animal. What we would like is a permanent berm and movable target stands. The range is used by many other shooters on days other than match day, so we would like the berms to be available for others to use. However, we don't want the target stands to get shot up. The stands would have to be able to be picked up and carried to the shed or put on a small trailer to be put away.

The singe rod/stand per animal might work out. Seems like it would be easy enough to pull out the rods and place them in a bucket at the end of a match. I just feel that the setup may not hold up well over time. Keep the suggestions coming guys.

I can provide pictures of resettable targets. A quick cord pull resets targets for the next relay. It's not satisfying for the 100% silhouette purist, but it increases the amount of shooting. They're self contained units on wheels with a steel backstop. We host up to 48 shooters with 2 60 shot matches in a day.
