Hunter class action

I would like to build a custom hunter rifle. I had a Kimber HS and now I shoot a CZ 452 American. Both have had decent accuracy but I want something that really shoots.

I need an action to build off. What do you guys recommend? Stiller, 40x or other action. I'm going to try to find a Lilja barrel.

Looking to build a price is no object build.

Any of those you mention will likely shoot better than most shooters can offhand. Is there a reason you wouldn't mention Anschutz in that list? I don't know how hard it is to find just an action, but you can buy a 1712 barreled action fairly easy. And that is what many top shooters shoot.

There is no really good reason I didn't mention an Anschutz other than I have a few friends that can do the barrel and bedding work and I thought it would be cool to have a one off rifle.

I'd go with an Anschutz action for the trigger. Since you're not worried about price I'd get a 54.18 Supermatch action with a 5018 trigger. Can't really do any better than that.

How about ordering a semi custom from Ultra Light Firearms?

Sorry but I do not know enough about the individual actions to help much. It seems like the top shooters use an Anschutz 1712 as the basis for a custom build.

I had a 40-X built up into a Hunting Rifle. Hart barrel, maple stock, Leupold 6.5-20 EFR to manage weight. If a single shot is your thing, it's very capable.

If I had my way, it would be a Stiller 2500XR action with a Jewell or Bix & Andy trigger. Without a doubt.

I built one off a Hall single shot action, but one of the Stiller SB actions would be my next go to. I prefer these as you can mount a Jewell or Xtreme two stage trigger on them, both I feel are better than the Anschutz trigger.

I have not seen the Xtreme trigger before. Very nice looking.

I agree with Bob, the Stiller 2500 is a fantastic action, my second choice would be an Anschutz 54 action. For extreme accuracy, I would suggest a single shot action. Anytime that you feed a 22 round from a magazine you will deform the lead bullet somewhat which will affect the accuracy of the gun. A Lilja or Shilen rachet barrel would be my first choices.

We (Mallory pulling the trigger) are in our second year campaigning a Stiller action, their short action, for the past season and through this season. We have been really happy with the action and the gun shoots so well I hate to post it for fear of being accused of exaggerating. For what its worth we have several rifles built on Anschutz actions, both repeaters and single shot and they are also great.
