Yep. I shoot a 57M in pistol cartridge cowboy. It shoots so well that I've been through four or five of the 22lr versions trying to find one that shoots as well as the 57M does. The 22mag leaves a bit to be desired on the rams, though. For those, I start with the 50-grain Federal Classic loads and replace the powder with 7.1gr of H110. That does the trick just fine. That rifle shot my only 39/40 in any cowboy match. It ain't the gun's fault that I missed that one turkey, either.
I have to say, though, the 57 rifles are a royal pain in the rear to deal with compared to a Marlin 39 and it's hard to get them decent compared to my Anschutz rifle without them being a little risky to fire prematurely. There are just short of five million parts in the trigger and they all try to avoid going where they're supposed to. The way the barrel's pinned into the receiver, you can't get at it with a cleaning rod from the breech, either. Parts are pretty much only available from Numrich. That said, I can shoot the one-piece stock split-finger like I shoot my scoped silhouette rifles and that helps me shoot it better. I sure couldn't have the square metal edges of the 39 that I shot before sitting between my fingers like that for very long.
