My wife has grown very fond of my 38-55 Marlin Cowboy. I am looking real hard at a 45-70 marlin Cowboy, but I've never owned a 45-70. Has anyone you know used a 45-70 as their CLA gun?

Several in the NY/NJ area use them. Most with very light loads and a lot of succes

I just bought one on sunday and am trying to figure out what would be a good velocity so it wouldnt beat your head off all day.I am going to test some loads with 300 grn bullets to see how they are.I will post some results after testing.

I've never posted here before but I have used my Browning 1886 45/70 some for CLA silhouette's.I use 27 grs. of IMR 4759 and some 300 gr. commercial cast bullets(1400 fps) for the chickens and pigs.I have it zeroed at 200 with 33 grs. of 4759 with the same bullet (1700 fps).I don't have to change the sight setting.I aim a little low for chickens and pigs.Recoil is very low in my 10 pound 1886.I've used the same loads with Hornady jacketed bullets too.

A friend of mine uses a 45-70. He uses 12gr Unique with a 350gr cast bullet. Recoil is light and it knocks down rams. Accuracy is very good. He is a master shooter and hard to beat.
