After zeroing your scope (Leupold VX-3 or Weaver T-24) on the chickens, can you reset the turret to zero?

On the Leupold, there are 3 small allen screws on the top sides of the turret. Just loosen then and turn your turret to set your 0 and tighten them down again and your good to go.

If you're using a Weaver T24, you just unscrew the little round knob holding the turret on. Hold the outside part (with number on it) and turn the knurled ride on the top with your fingers or use a coin in the slot to loosen the knob enough to be able to turn the outside of the turret without adjusting the scope. Once you have it where you want it, just hold the outside turret still while you screw the knob back in. No set screws involved, so no need for tools.

One more thing. When loosening up the tiny set screws on the Leupold target turrets unscrew them all the way out and trash them. Replace them with allen head machine screws, 4-40 thread ( I think) in either 3\8ths of 1\2 inch depending on which knobs you are going to run.

The machine screws are WAY less likely to strip out! You cant get the scope caps back on, but I haven't use done of them on a competition rifle in a LONG time.

I did this on mine today since one of the heads was stripped out. I had to superglue my allen wrench into the socket to finally get it out. While I was at it I went ahead and replaced the others with 1/2" long 4-40 set screws. We'll see if I like it over time, and how often they snag on my cardigan sweater.

Dang, I forgot about the sweater snagging problem! Should have warned you first!

Seriously, I have 6 dedicated silhouette rifles, with a 7th on the way, and all wear Leupold scopes with the screws changed out. You get tighter lock down of the knobs to the elevating and windage mechanisms with the beefier screws, and better grip for gloved hands at the winter shoots too.

OK, Malinois and the Flodida gang may not need gloves, but here in Virginia we had snow the first 2 monthly matches I shot! Maybe I'm just getting soft as I get older................
