just a quick question, do the winchester commemoratives come drilled and taped for a side mount, or need to drill for a tang sight. thanks......dan

All my winchester com. have been drilled and tapped on the side. I have a couple of them.

The commemorative's i've seen had pre-drilled holes for a receiver sight and even nicer some had 26" barrels.
they make nice shooters for CLA.

Yep, My Buffalo Bill commerative was drilled and tapped for a reciever sight. A good price is roughly $550/600. Mine was new in box NBF.

You made a good find at that price. Most of the time the long barrels, especially the octagon ones which I have seen carried a premium price. It is a shame that the manufacturers do not keep up the production of these rifles. I can not tell you how many people I have run into who wanted a long octagon barreled rifle for no specific reason than it looked goodmand they wanted it. Let's face it, lever guns are addictive.

A 26" Commerative Win followed me home...well, it did have some nice wood a half round barrel, a half length magazine and a factory Installed Marvel tang site. At least it did not have the original box or the collectors would have made it even more expensive.

I got very lucky and found my Buffalo Bill for $500, New unfired but no box. Did get the original 1968 paperwork with it though...

I sure do love that 26" octagon barrel - It is by far my most favorite rifle.

Of course if your fortunate, you can get the original [1894] 26" octagon barreled winchester 30 WCF in good shape for around 250 bucks, 25 years ago ........like me!
