I'm trying to get back into the game. I shot back in late 80's when I was in high school, using my 3-p anshutz 1810 barreled action. I am curious what people are using today? I preferred the 1808 running game 54 barreled action (with the bloop tube)and would like to try to find one to purchase, otherwise who are the well known barrels and gunsmiths nowadays that could make me one using a 54 action? Or are there other great alternatives? I spoke to Lones Wigger at the SHOT show and he suggested the Kimber HS for both standard and hunter, but then again he helped design it, lol. I still have my Kliengunther hunter rifle I'll probably use for that class.

Look into the Wooster, or Pharr stocks with 54 action and your choice of barrels from Annie to Lilja or Shilen....Great respect for Lones but he hasn't shot in silhouette seriously in a few years.

Ya, we talked about that, I understood his reasoning- same gun for both classes. And he commented on his well used eyes for not shooting anymore..He and his wife are good folks, always helpful. I just haven't seen them in over 20 years, and they've aged well otherwise. Thanks for the suggestions, Im gonna take in a few and go from there. BTW what scopes are people using too? I have my old leupold 6.5x20 but probable need another for my hunter class rifle, all I could afford back then was a simmons- now I got swarovskis, Night Forces, etc. I informally shoot 50bmg long distance for fun.

The KDF is a great rifle.... put the 6.5X20 and shoot it in both classes.

Any chance you shot Texas state smallbore championships in Brownwood and Stephenville late 70's through mid eighties

pike, ditto on the Leupy 6.5X20...as for Col Wigger...I have spent a few after match drinks with him discussing the aging eyes, very frustraiting but I can understand, still a great man to talk with, and his wife is always a blast.

I'm from Brownwood and moved back, I live at the lake a mile from the 4-H center- won those matches several times, including roundup at A&M in 88 or 89, I didn't start shooting until '85 or 6, with Travis Gary as my 4-H coach and on Texas 10X's- shot 4-H matches here, and NRA at Abilene and Stephenville, State silhouette matches were always in FTW then, and then I was onto the national team 3-p and air rifle until 92. Haven't shoot competitive since on A&M rifle team up to '93- got burned out. Then school, school, and school, residency, fellowships, blah blah. So now I've been building up my arsenal, collect machine guns too, and ready to get back into some fun

Oh it was the 1808ED barreled action, the running game bloop tube Im looking for I called shilen to see if they could make a barrel with the bloop tube and they laughed at me???

Crap prob be easier to just buy a 1907/13 barreled action instead

pikebishop, phrased "school, school, school, residency, fellowship and blah blah blah"? Cardiologist???? Interventional Cardiologist? Never met or worked for a 3P/SIlhouette Cardiologist, worked for a Skeet shooting Cardiologist a few years though. Never could get him to Silhouette Matches.

Pike, did you experience the old clanging film change boxes back in the late 70's and early 80's when the techs had to load one film at a time in the darkroom. Those things had to hold way over 20 individual 14 X 17 films and it was terrible compared to the PACS systems of today. Back in those days in my part of the country Interventional Radiology was known as "Special Procedures". I liked that name but my clinical rotation in Interventional Radiology lasted exactly one month when I told them I was headed for the "dark side" of Imaging. Been working for a Federal Agency since 1983, never made much money but learned more about life, the military and RSO stuff than I would have in the Private Sector. Been to all kinds of schools, worked with active duty military people, contractors, law enforcement folks of all kinds, Nuclear pharmacies, fire departments, engineers. Never dreamed I would have the opportunity to do all those things. I even disassembled and scrapped a old 180 degree fixed head Searle SPECT camera overnight for a company that won the bid but did not have enough engineers to pull the thing out so a new camera could be installed.

Hope to see you at the 2011 Texas Smallbore Championship in March. Come out and shoot. You will have the time of your life. Silhouette is bigger and better than it has ever been and we will not talk about imaging.
