After getting my rifle all put together, I adjusted the trigger to it's lowest setting, the factory installed xmark pro trigger, and it was VERY inconsistent. It ranged from 2.75-4 pounds. The timney in my CZ is 2.5 pounds EVERY time. I didn't expect the xmark to be a timney, but over a pound in variance? NOT impressed. I took it to the range and fired 40 rounds for break in, hoping for some improvement as maybe the trigger would break in a little bit as well, but nope, still the same. I am going to email Remington to see what they say, but I don't expect much.

Pretty much every factory Remington I have ever had has been very inconsistent. Here's what I've found. If my loaded rounds chamber with different resistance, the trigger pull will vary accordingly. Try this. Measure the trigger pull with an empty chamber and then measure it with some fired rounds that chamber with different resistance. The trigger pull on my rifles increased as the resistance of the chambered round increased. I used to neck size only, but found that my loaded rounds chambered with a lot of inconsistency---some chambered easy and others were tight. I was having a hard time keeping the rounds sorted so I started using a full length die every time and the rounds chambered more consistently and when I measured the trigger pull on the fired cases, it was more consistent.
This may help or maybe you just have a trigger that is worse than most. But I don't think you will find many Remington triggers that are very consistent and especially if the rounds you are using chamber with different resistances.
The other thing that helped was to make sure the firing pin or firing pin spring was not binding or striking the sides of the bolt (in others words that it's in there on center) and that it was lubed.
I believe the Remington triggers are sensitive to the cocking pressure of the bolt.

Anyway, I don't think the issue is isolated to the X-Mark triggers.

I'm with you on the x-mark. My new .240 Ruger has/had one. I swapped it out for a Shilen trigger within the first 50 rounds.

From what I have researched, the inconsistent trigger pull is amplified when the trigger is set to it's lightest weight. Add a little weight back and the trigger may become more consistent.

The good news is that there is a market for the x-mark pro trigger. Sell it for $45, and turn around and buy an older factory trigger for the same price, or an aftermarket trigger. I can't stand the blade on the new trigger and I have seen too many photos of broken X-mark triggers. They break right where the tension setting screw is. It is a weak design.

I'll second the "SUCKS", however my gunsmith is pretty good on them. They don't compare to the old 700 and not even close to the 722's.

Well call me different, but I like the one I have. I bought a CDL Limited .260 when the came out. The trigger was set to about 4.5 lbs. out of the box. I adjusted the trigger with the wrench they supplyied with the gun and it went right down to 2lbs. No creep at all and as far as I can tell it is still where I set it. Now I don't shoot 100 rds. per session with it; I bought it to kill deer and bears. I did kill a bear with it in 2009. I will admit I am not real fond of the smooth blade, but I can live with it. Al

Your logic makes sense. I didn't mention originally that all of my tests were with one, and only one snap cap, so pressure should have been consistent throughout. it's a custom Lilja barrel, so I don't think the chamber is off either. The trigger just sucks, lol.

I don't mind the smooth blade, in fact I ground down and polished the sharp edges of the Timney on my CZ, and now it's a mirror finish.

The whole thing makes me mad as I spent a little more on the base gun for the project to get this trigger, thinking I would save on having to get an aftermarket one down the line. Not the case. Anyone thinking the same, buy the cheapest 700 action you can get, and put all new parts in it. The rifle itself fires great, but the trigger bugs me. After this season I will save for a Timney for THIS gun now. jeez.

Al, where was it, not in police beat I hope... Butch I want a signed picture too ;)

Out of the box not so good. I removed the screw in the trigger shoe and heated the glue out of the sear and main adjustement screws. With the sear engagement properly set it is as good as the timney on my CZ. Now if I could fix the jerk behind the trigger.

been up this road there seems to be 2 gen. of xmark triggers one is doable the other is junk the best words to remember is jewel

I agree with Mr holton. However I have a Kelbly trigger...they are precise. plus as the weight of pull is increased the lock time decreases!!! kelbly makes benchrest actions...all their goods are very nice. The trigger goes from the ounces to 3-4lbs...its slick.....and only a few sheckles more than a Jewel

Take the overtravel out. Then increase the sear just a bit if you have messed with it. then adjust the spring tension.
The sear has to hold evenly. Then adjust the spring ,Weight, You are better with a 2.5 lb even pulling trigger than a light variable one.

I have not messed with the internals at all other than the adjustment screw. And according to the manual, the lowest setting on it is 3lbs, which is what I was shooting for. I have heard from other places that increasing the tension will up the consistency, but I expect to have to go to 4lbs to get any results. I just had higher expectations than this, as the xmark was fairly hyped in literature. I will look into your suggestions though.
