replacement Barrel length survey (to those who have changed or modified their factory barrels);

I'm considering rebarreling my single-extractor match 54. I'm leaning toward a shorter-fatter barrel instead of longer-thinner. Assuming either barrel will weigh the same, do you experienced plinkers have a preference?

I replaced the 22" reverse taper factory barrel on my 54:18 MSR with a Lilja 18-1/2" SS barrel that measures .875 at the muzzle. At 100 yds, there was a slight improvement in accuracy. Not enough to justify the cost, but it sure is pretty! Also, the Lilja will shoot more brands of ammo relatively well.

When compared to my 1712 with factory barrel, the 54:18 produces a noticeably tighter ten shot group at 100 yards.

Good luck with your choice!

My smallbore rifle is an Anschutz 1712 with 25.5" Lilja 53RF taper tightbore 4-groove barrel, which I built from the ground up to be as light as possible so I could put max weight into the barrel. I really like the weight forward feel, but it's not for everyone.

my 1807 has a 20" Hart .750 @ the muzzle.

Its a little shorter than what Ive normally used, but it balances out pretty well. Will def try a 23-25" barrel when the time comes to re-barrel.

Jason what is your muzzle diamter at 25.5"?
