Is there much difference between the 452/453 and the 455? I am looking at buying a 452 Silo or the 455 American. Thanks

I would go with the 452 silo or the 452 american both are proven shooters, there is alot of debate on the 455 model.

The 452 is proven. The 452 American uses two action screws and the 452 Sil uses 1 action screw and a barrel lug. Much debate on that topic, FWIW I personally like the 452 American over the 452 Sil just for the simple fact it uses 2 action screws, YMMV.

Having a 452 Silo and a 452 American I can personally say that as long as your torque setting are correct on the silo it will shoot just as good as the American. Right now the 455 is having some problems, if you get the 455 from what I've been reading on RFC either they are real good shooters, or your gonna be calling CZ customer service. Lastly, if you ever decide to free float the barrel, bed, or inlet to fit a timney, the synthetic is alot easier to work with than wood. Best of luck on choosing your rifle.

my 452 varmint now has 2 action screws and no barrel lug, simple operation for any smith.

Thanks for the input. Is the varmint barrel ok for hunter class? Sorta liking the silo stock with slight monte carlo.

the varmnt is a bit heavier, it is legal for hunter, the silo is very light. my choice would be to do what Jason has done and get a varmint and build up and paint the stock to fit. just keep it down to 8.5 ponds and you will be ok. there are pix on the smallbore page of some nice home brewed stocks.
i do feel the heavier barrel is a helpful for hold. triggers can be made pretty good for pennies, and great for well under 100$

Ya, if ya get the silhouette version like I did, you'll probably need to add 1lb or so of lead shot in the but of the gun. The rubber recoil pad comes off easy with just a blow dryer.

I feel more comfortable playing with the silo synthetic stock as I planned on customizing it to fit me as others have. Also planned on adding weight to the stock.

I tried to find one locally and nobody has either the silo or varm in stock for me to try. Is the barrel on the varm a lot bigger than the silo? Also polymer or steel mags? What comes with a new rifle?

Found the silo for $365 w/shipping

I'll check forsure on a few sights I like to watch but I think ya may be able to get it for cheaper. I'll post ya the link if I find something better, price wise.

i'm pretty sure, but Doesn't a varmint or "bull barrel" put you in standard automatically?

Hunter class requires the barrel to taper from the receiver to the muzzle without specifying how much, and since the CZ 452 Varmint barrel does taper, it is legal for Hunter class. Choose your scope and rings carefully, because the heavier barrel does get a complete rig pretty close to the weight limit. They make very good Silhouette rifles.

Expect a new CZ to come with a plastic magazine.

Rule 3.1.1 High Power Hunting Silhouette Rifle - A hunting style rifle having a maximum weight of 9
pounds, including sights and if applicable, an empty magazine or clip. With the exception of single shot rifles, all
other types must be repeating rifles, which shall be fired by loading all cartridges from the magazine or clip into the
chamber. The intent of this rule is to describe a common hunting rifle.

(e) Barrel: A hunting style tapered barrel. Bull or varmit barrels are not permitted. A factory tuner that does not
act as a muzzle break is permitted. Maximum barrel length is 26 inches, including tuner.

(smallbore hunting class the same rules as high power but .22 short long, lr no tuner allowed)

I have a T-36 scope. Will need to get rings. Would hate to put it together and be over 8.5# with the varm. I thought the rules say no varmint barrels?
I found a 455 locally to be able to shoulder. No 452 varm or silo anywhere.

Having shot two CZ 455's this weekend with FX3 25 powers on them....stick to the 452. Quality of the 455's is not that of the 452's.
All rulings I have seen on taper is that if the barrel has some taper, but I do not recall the requirement as to direction of the taper, and it is certainly silent on amount of taper. Hard to mic any barrel and not find some size difference on it.

Overall weight becomes more of an issue due to the weight of the scope.
