Hey all,
I'm looking to buy a Spotting Scope that won't break the bank. I've seen a few Leupold 20-60x80 Green Ring Sequoias out there in the used market for about $300. What do you think?

I know their scopes are outstanding, but no one talks about their spotting scopes. I think I could bear the price of up to $400-$450, but really need some help from those who've "been there." You know our sport and it's demands. What works ok, what works well, and what should I not waste my money on?!?

I Just got this about a month or so back and really like it. http://www.adorama.com/LD111360.html?ut ... adl-google Can be found cheaper but this is what popped up when I searched it. I am no spotting scope expert but it works great and seems clear, and does not kill you to look through off and on all day at a match. The Burris landmark is good for the money but I think this has better eye relief and doesn't strain you eyes as bad after a long day of spotting.

My Nikon Sky and Earth has been to many ranges across the country, dropped and otherwise abused for over 9 years now and is still going strong.

Consider a big pair of Celestron Binocs - the 20X - 80mm or even better, the 25X - 100mm are a tremendous value. You get a lot of optical performance for the dollar, plus you get stereo vision.

I use 3 for different jobs, all good and none too expensive. Unertl 24x63 on the rifle range. Leopold gold ring fixed power Compact 25x general spotting and hunting, small and waterproof. Bushnell 20x indoors mostly for Airgun spotting. Unertl resolves the best and can be bought used under 400 off ebay. One of the Leopold's just sold for about 200. Bushnells sell for less than 100.

Put a new Kowa 82 mm with fixed power eyepiece next to my Unertl the Kowa is just a bit better at more than double the price. Real bargin cost vs resolution are older Bushnells. If I could only keep one would be the Leopold.
