Rectangular apertures are legal

Per an email I just got from Lee O'Neil, the silhouette committee examined the ShootingSight cat-eye shaped apertures, and have determined them to be legal for CLA.

As a reminder, these rear apertures will fit a Williams or equivalent 12-40 threaded rear sight (aka 7/32-40), and they have an inclined aperture plate inside, so the round aperture is presented to your eye as a horizontal slit shape. This difference in dimension between the two axes will create a bias in your depth of field, allowing you to get much sharper definition on critical horizontal edges of the sight picture, without giving up brightness. This was discussed at http://www.steelchickens.com/forums/vie ... 324#p43324.

These rear apertures are permanently mounted in a hood which can also fit a corrective lens insert. Most people who do not wear glasses for distance visioin will benefot greatly from a +0.75 lens either in the rear hood, or in a pair of shooting glasses, to better balance their depth of field between the target and the front sight. Most people learn this after their front sight goes blurry on them, but in fact even people with young eyes will benefit.

I used one of these this year, it helped my old eyes see the front sight..... Well worth the money, Art is a great guy to visit with about your vision issue and iron sights.
Thanks Art,
