Looking to grab my first ever reloading press ! Don't need all the bells and whistles, as I will be only loading for 1, maybe two calibers. Just looking for something simple, relatively cheap, and basic. Help is greatly appreciate, as I'm completely new to this end of the sport.

BH - a year ago I bought the Lee kit to load 223 and 7-08. I used to reload years ago but got out of it. Did some research and spent approx $100 on the kit. Have since replaced the powder dispenser (Lee "leaked"), the scale (cheap, cheap) and need to replace the hand priming tool (plastic cover broke and I had to wrap the handle w/ tape because the edges were too sharp). I've also pulled the knob off the press handle a few times.

Should've bought the RCBS kit for approx $300. Many swear by the Lee but I just swear at it. YMMV. Good luck.

P.S. Sorry to come across like a complete sourpuss but I really do enjoy reloading. I do like the Lee quick change die inserts.

Take you time and look on ebay and the forums and yhou can come up with a used one usually inexpensive, or post a want add on Craiglist. In the mean time suck up to Malinois or Hammy and maybe they'll load for you ;)

Malinios has some experience...close and a good mentor.

Since when have you NOT needed all the "bells and whistles" lol...Seriously, be very careful and heed the advice of your mentor...more is not always better when you are dealing with gunpowder....BTW, did you get my FB message? On another note, I looked on eBay and I must say, it all looks Chinese to me, I really have no idea what I'm looking for and need. I'll be loading 7mm-08, if that means anything either. Ounce again just something simple and easy to learn on. No bells and whistles please. Saving those for the gun

Send PPKNY a note. I had sold him my old RCBS Rock Chucker and stuff to get him started last year and I believe he bought a Redding T7 since then, so he maybe will to part with the Rock Chucker.

Bob what did you think of the Rock Chucker? I am considering getting one as I am also making my list for what I need to reload. I am only going to be reloading for HP shooting and occasional 9mm maybe. I am not looking for fast just reliable and solidly built.

It was OK dee, but I think in the single stage type press the Redding T7 is a better way to go as you have all you dies in the tool head even the little Dillon Square D is nice, but it doesn't do rifle calibers.

I have 2 Dillon 550's I uses for everything but my rifle cartridges, but I hear from John, Evelio and Tony along with many others that they are using their Dillon's for it so I may give it a try.

I will admit that the RCBS Rockchucker is my sentimental favorite, it was the first press I used to produce ammo on....but there doesn't look to be a bad one in the bunch....I currently have mounted in the Kitty Cave for various purposes 2 dillion progressives, a Rockchucker, a cantilever press who's name escapes me at the moment and an old Chicago Tool and Die Company press, which is a machinist's work of art. Right now Midway USA has reloading kits on sale that will pretty much put you in business...just add dies, shellholder, bullets, powder, brass and primers and you are in business.....

McAlice, since you are the 7-08 go to guy, BH is now your highpower responsibility.
