Would this be good enough to compete with. As the title says I'm beginner so I haven't shot competitive much. Right now my gun is a 10/22 target modle.

Would it be worth getting A savage to use or keep saving for a cz.

I don't have a Savage but I do have a CZ and it is a very nice rifle. I would save up for the CZ and use your 10/22 right now.

For a beginner a 10/22 is just fine to learn the ropes.

Go looking around on RFC.

I'd save money for a 452....

Shoot your 10/22, just remember 2 1/2 minutes is a long time, you don't have to burn all five rounds in the first 15 seconds!

Ya I managed that with a friends bolt gun the first time I went out...

I guess I keep practicing up with the ruger till I upgrade to cz.

Anyone with savage details can still try to convince me other wise though.

That is why I suggested going to RFC and reading up. The MKII sporter barrel (assuming that is what you are loooking at) are very hit/miss with barrel quality, big problem with first shot fliers. The triggers can be made acceptable.

There is a very nice MKI heavy barrel there now that the guy has already had reworked. The stock sucks but can be replaced, the rest has already been massaged by savagegunsmithing.com.

Of corse by the time you buy a $2-300 savage, possibly have to work the trigger, buy a nicer stock, you've already spent the $ you would have on a
452 that is ready to go.

Not trying to be pessimistic, just realistic and lessons I have already learned....

I did exactly what David and Mary told you to do. Now I loan my Ruger to new shooters that I bring out and chuckle at how fast they shoot.

I have a Savage MkII BV that will out shoot my Anschutz 54MS at 100yrds off the bench on most days. It is very accurate. The trigger is just a little distracting to me for offhand shooting. I would have zero problems recommending Savage rifles as a starter rifles for silhouette.

I shot a 10/22 last year (my first year) and over the winter I got a good deal on a Savage MK II BV. Every match this year, I have only shot my Savage. I am very happy with it this year. It shoots way better then I can with Wolf. I like the trigger on it alot actually, it works well for me. The only things I have done to it is the DIP bottom metal and adjusted the action screw torque until I found what it liked.

I have shot my btv savage at silhouette with mueller apv. Tied for first place today. Two others that were tied had cz lux with weaver 3-9 and cz 452 american with weaver 2-10. So yes the savage will do just fine and is not a "starter rifle". Wolf ammo or cci sv.

As for those new shooters with 10/22. I INSIST they rest the gun between shots. Finger off trigger...bla bla bla. The gun must go down between shots to rest and restore muscles. I have noted with some pride that now, 3/4 of the way through the season, my new 10/22 shooters are coaching other new 10/22 shooters to rest too. Amazing how many more animals they hit when they avoid carnival style shooting. There is a time and a place for a semi-auto, silhouette is not one of them.
