Hey folks - for those that have attended national, regional or state matches, have you found that the stick on cheek pieces have been allowed for hunter rifle provided other specs such as weight, comb height, etc. are met?

Seen quite a few tape in place flip flops on cheek pieces at the nationals.

The last I heard was yes. It certainly is not spelled out in the rules.

3.15 Buttplates and Cheekpieces - A butt or buttplate having a curved
rear surface in which the depth of the curve exceeds 1/2 inch when measured
from a straight line drawn from the top to the bottom of the buttplate is prohibited. Buttplates must be centered. Adjustable cheek pieces must be fixed
and sealed in place. See 3.4(f) regarding Black Powder Cartridge Rifle. Rule
3.15 does not apply to Target or Open class Air Rifles

What about rule 3.1.1(c)?

Stock: A hunting style stock; thumbhole-type stocks are not permitted. Attachments, either removable or permanent, are not permitted.
Swivels and slings are permitted, but slings may not be used for arm
support in shooting. Dimensions may not exceed those described in
3.1(d).

The problem is defining "attachments". How hard would it have been to put in five more words to help define what an "attachment" is.

I agree Trent. A few years ago at the National's I recall someone pointing out a person having a flip flop bottom taped to their hunter rifle stock for a cheek piece and they were shooting it like that in the match and Greg never said a word about it.

Just saw your post Mary, same match I was thinking of...

Talked to Greg Connor himself about this - in relation to attachments. His ruling was "as long as it still meets the dimensional/weight requirements and fits in the jig, they are allowed.
I asked about the difference between the "temporary" style, ie tapped on or stuck on vs the permanent, bondo style. His response was the same - make weight and fit the jig.

Hope that helps. Sometimes being a new/learning Match Director allows me to ask some of these very same questions!

Magazines are removable, and you 'attach' it to the stock. If I wanted to pick apart this definition.......
