It is with a heavy heart that I note here that long time fellow silhouette shooter and match director Chuck Deason has passed away. Chuck will always be remembered for his 10 plus year stretch as match director of the Sunshine Classic in Jacksonville FL which became the first leg of the famous Southern Trifecta.
May you rest in peace my friend.

Just heard fm Dennis G and ran here to check... Another of our tribe has fallen. Chuck had a lot of problems over the last few years with his health, finances, and first wife and kid. I hope he's in a happier place because he really deserves it... Chuck is one of the really good guys. Again.... we are diminished.

Got the email from Dennis G on Sunday....was shocked...enjoyed shooting the Sunshine Classic that Chuck directed...Chuck had a lot on his plate in the past few years...we are a small shooting family and it hurts to lose one of your own..RIP Chuck.

I am extremely upset to have lost my good friend Chuck Deason. Chuck was a very unselfish individual and also a compassionate man. I first met Chuck at one of our earlier Southern Nationals about 20 years ago. We became really good friends as both shooters and match directors. Chuck was really good at having ideas bounced off of him and giving Jerry and me advice. Jerry and I listened to Chuck and took everything he said to heart as he had the best interest of each competitor at heart and we usually realized that Chuck was a good advisor to us.

Chuck was also a great competitor and most especially a super Dad to his son Matthew. Chick went out of his way to take Matthew to Louisiana and Arkansas to complete in the Southern Tifecta and Matthew was a great listener. Chuck asked me to coach and spot for Matthew which to me was the ultimate compliment to me and sacrifice as a Dad.

I only can say that Chuck was a great personal friend and I will really miss talking to him. My heart goes out to his wife Angelic and his great running buddy Dennis Glasscock.

So sorry to hear about Chuck. I was fortunate enough to make the last big match he put on in FL as my first big silhouette match I ever traveled to. He was very generous and kind and put a lot of effort into the match. You could just tell it was his baby and he worked hard to make sure everyone had a great time. Let me know I should travel more to shoot!

Chuck and I go back a ways, he was still in the Navy, stationed in the Carolinas when he started shooing silhouette at Gateway. I believe the welcome he received was the reason he chose Jacksonville after retiring. Chuck started traveling to the Southern Nationals with John and I. When John quit shooting it was Chuck and I. Chuck later took over the smallbore rifle silhouette program at Gateway, including the Sunshine Classic. Chuck turned that into one of the best matches in the country.
Chuck married his high school sweetheart in 2011 and he and Angelete made a home in nearby St. Augustine. Chuck suffered an on the job injury this year and was retired. Angelete and Chuck moved to St.Louis this summer. We chatted regularly and had a few drinks in the fall while he was visiting. We had planned to go to the Last Dance Party II and on to New Orleans to show the wives some fine dining in 2014.
Chuck's sudden death really knocked me for a loop, but at least we had talked on Thursday. We'll pray for Angelete. Rest in Peace my friend.

Sad news. Like Dee, his last big match was my first, and he introduced me to all the biggies. I really liked Chuck and hope Mat is ok.
