After trying out my pharr stocked 1712 and realizing I couldn't get a sight picture with my stock ring set up. I went looking for a higher set up. All I could get locally were some BKL 200 high rings and a BKL 167 riser. I bought them last week and installed them this morning. I can see!! But am I too high? according to BKL web page the measurements are .774 regular height 200 rings + .200 for high rings =.974 the BKL 167 riser is .654 total 1.654. So does it matter that I am over 1.5 or should I care about class. I think I would be fine if I found a set of their standard rings bringing me down just under the 1.5. Or should I just leave it alone and shoot? I don't know if I care what class I am in. I don't practice enough to be competitive anyways?

For most local matches it doesn't matter. However, if you go to a regional or the Nationals they will have to pass the Tech inspection. So if your just going to shoot locally have fun, if planning on the Nationals and Regional matches look for a set that will make Tech.

The answer is, as usual, it depends. It depends on where you shoot and what your local rules are. If you go to a big match, even if the rifles are not certified or if they don't catch you in certification, if you shoot well I guarantee someone will protest your rifle and you will lose the protest. If I were you, I would lower the scope down to just under 1.5 inches so you are clear. That should be plenty of clearance anyway.

BKL makes high and low rings. The low rings with risers will keep you within hunter rules and the high rings with risers will keep you within standard rules but not within hunter rules. Of course, I think you've already figured that out.

If you only shoot one rifle, it needs to comply with the hunter rules.
