I'm looking at either the Savage Mark II BRJ or the Mark II BV with a weaver T-15 scope. Does anyone have experience with the Savage rifles?

Years ago when the Mark 11BV was introduced I ordered one in to the LGS, when I got it I looked down the barrel from the action end and noticed the rifling looked damaged, the owner ran a patch through it and verified that was the case. Over the next several weeks they brought in three more all the same, bad barrels. They were brought in from the Ellett bros. distributer, I thought I might wait a few months and try it again but never did, ended up with a 541-T.
I still think it would be a great first rifle for silhouette or a loaner gun {that was what I wanted it for} but I'm not sure about the quality of the gun. I'm sure lots of folks will chime in on how great theirs is but I would be interested in what percentage of them aren't so great. I don't think they shoot a test target before they leave the factory or do they?

BTW welcome to the forum, where are you?

Within the past year, a couple friends have purchased Savage Mark IIs to start shooting Silhouette; a Mark II GL, and a Mark II FSS. They're both happy with their decisions and haven't had any issues.

The CZ's have always been a good starter rifle. Don't remember hearing of anyone having any problems with them.

Quality is about the same with the CZ's {both have plenty of tool and casting marks} but there a little nicer designed, I like buying stuff made in this country whenever possible but would pick the CZ over a Savage if the price was close and I believe they are. Neither company has the confidence in their product to shoot test targets so that's a coin toss on either one.

Having not ever worked at a firearm manufacturing facility, (I do own a one horse cabinet shop.Time is money) I wouldn't think I (as an owner) would spend to much time on test targets for a 500.00 gun. Bang, bang, it works, in the box it goes. Start with all that, a 500.00 dollar gun, isn't 500.00 anymore. Just me.

I have a savage, well my second savage fvt. The first one was so screwed up they replaced it. I have a CZ 453 Varmint, this is the rifle I shoot silhouette with. I bought the rifle because I wasn't certain if the first rifle was bad or I couldn't shoot. I can shoot off a bench, not so great standing up but I'm working on it.
Quality control on Savage rimfires is shaky, much better with CZ.

Come out to a BRI match. We have a guy who has so many rifles he rotates them. The savage is the least expensive one and the one he seems to enjoy shooting simply because it preforms well for the price.
