I went ahead and did it.

I finally bought an Anschutz 1712. I think I got a fair specimen for a fair price. She can shoot better than I can so now I have lost a whole bunch of my excuses for missing.

I apologize for the lousy photos.

Nice! You are right David, now you will have to come up with a whole new set of excuses. Keep an ear out at matches for the rest of us 1712 shooters to get some ideas :))

Thank you very much. The seller threw in a 25MOA DIP scope rail for an extra $25.

Nice rifle David. Maybe you can shoot some golden bullets through it so you still have an excuse? Personally I just use the old tried and true 'I suck' excuse, ymmv.

Now you need to get Steve to make a stock for it. :-bd

That is a good idea OldRanger!

The chamber on my new 1712 is much tighter than the chamber on my two Marlins or the Wife's 10/22. I had difficulty chambering CCI Stingers at first. I had to tap on the back of the bolt and bolt handle with a hammer to get the bolt to close. I never had that problem with my Marlins or 10/22. After a 100 rounds it closes much easier now. I guess it is finally broken in.

Yeah I had to do that with mine too. I found if you just use a drill bit and widen out the chamber a little they fit much smoother

And why are you shooting CCI Stingers in a Silhouette rifle?

The extra velocity helps to knock down those pesky rams.

I was wondering the same thing. Definitely against the rules in an official NRA competition.

Two items:

1) My gun club has only "fun matches", there is no NRA Approved matches. Typically the only approved matches I get to shoot in are the Nationals at NRA Whittington Center.

2) The above post about using Stingers and requiring a hammer to close the action was a joke. Who in their right mind takes a hammer to an Anschutz? :ymalien:

You joke about gun abuse but I'm sure everyone remembers that 1712 last year that came up for sale that had the barrel and stock cut off short to make it a "garden gun".
The morons are out there and walk among us!!!! x_x
