Does this make sense?
I recently received my Anschutz 1712, have a Bushnell 4200 6-24x, JP hex screws, FAT wrench and am, for whatever reason, struggling with mounting the scope. I attempted to mount Burris Signature Zee rings only to find out the hard way that the rifle has a round receiver consequently the rings will not fit without modification. I don't have access to a Dremel tool and don't want to purchase one at this time. I believe that the rifle, scope, and rings will be very close, it not at, the maximum allowed weight for Hunter class. I'm going to return the rings, preferring not to modify them, and look at purchasing either BKL-257H or Talley 1" High rings drilled and tapped for Anschutz receivers, that appear to be made specifically to fit the Anschutz receiver. Does anyone have any familiarity with either of these ring sets? I'm relocating to Phoenix in 6 months and am thinking about mounting the scope without shimming, waiting until I make some acquaintences at Rio Salado or Hassayampa and asking for help the shimming. I just want to shoot the gun. I'd appreciate your suggestions, Tom

I believe the burris signature zee ring mounts to a weaver type base that has to be mounted on the rifle. Or do you have the burris signature rimfire -airgun rings? They would mount on the rail of the rifles action. If the underside of these rings are hitting the top of the action between the dove tail just a bit you can file some of the ring away that is touching.
These rings are steel, strong and heavy. They can be lightened by drilling 3 holes across the top strap and two in the lower side straps. That is not much weight but every little bit counts.
The BLK rings are aluminum and will be lighter but you may possibly dent your scope or have to lap your rings if you shim.
To me dremel tools and rifles do not mix. Once you start the thing and touch the work there is just no telling where it may end up and it leaves tracks where ever it goes usually where you don't want them.

I use Burris Signature high rimfire/tipoff rings on both my Anschutz. Yes you have to relieve the bottom of the ring dovetail to get it to clear. It's not a bit deal and they are very nice rings. BKL are nice as well. No problem with either choice.

I use the BKL and they just slide and lock in. They are lightweight and made for the 11mm dovetail.

Hey OldRanger,

I have heard of 1712 owners running out of elevation adjustment trying to sight in for rams.
Have you had any problems? Are you still near the center of your scope elevation adjustment range?

2 layers of beer can under the rear of the scope fixes the problem.

I ran out of elevation adjustment for the rams with my original rings. That's one of the main reasons I went to the Burris Sig. rings with the offset inserts. I had to relieve the bottom on the rings a bit, but they work great after that.

I must have gotten lucky cause at rams I'm about 3/4's of the way up my elevation. And I'm about 1/4 from the bottom at chickens. With no shims. This is with the bkl rings and a FX3 25 power leupold.
