I shot my second match this morning and went 14/40 and 14/40. Only hit 4 turkeys the whole day. I hate turkeys.

My first goal at every match, and I have been shooting this for over year now.
IS Frist: Get better the half my Chickens and Pigs, they to get 50% of my Rams, and at least 1 turkey. Extra Turkeys are bonus!! but normally when I do execute that plan I end up in the 20's.

Only 4 turkey in 80 shot match is great, that is one per bank. Turkeys can be tough if you let them be that way.

you're looking at it all wrong. You GOT 4 turkeys. That's great. As someone who has gotten 0 turkeys ( I once missed the first 20 animals of a 60 shot match) celebrate your hits. Next time get 5.....or 6.... or 20. Keep working. You WILL get better.
welcome to the club

I like that, very zen like! So with that in mind I just need to stop letting them be hard, oh boy this is going to hurt.

My oldest friend told me - "Matches are won and lost with the chickens and pigs."
Once you get good enough to clean the short lines you'll have enough practice/experience to get higher turkey scores. I stopped shooting for 15 years and it took me several matches to get back to being competitive. But, I had a lot of fun starting over, the fellow shooters were great to be around, and no one really cared that I was doing awful. Then one day it all came back to me (and its been downhill ever since).
Enjoy the ride, you'll get better as you shoot more - you'll hit some you didn't expect to hit and you miss some you thought you had...the nature of the game.
If we were doing this for a living a lot of folks would be hungry.

Thanks for the encouragement. The most frustrating part is on my first match I dropped 4 turkeys in a row. Then I noticed that I shot bank 2 instead of bank 1 and nothing counted.
Good times.

Mals - where are you shooting?
I'm somewhat new to St. Louis and the only matches I know of are at the Bench Rest Club in Wright City. Did you find another match?

That is where I am shooting. They have a match each month. The place is a very nice set-up. I also shoot a service rifle match there each year.
What part of town are you in?
