It isn't affecting where I shoot. Poor excuse.

From what I have read, there has been one bird that has died from lead poison and they don't know where the lead came from. It might be natural, not frou hunters.

If you people from Calif stand still for this, the rest of the country is in trouble. All they need is one small excuse and our ammo is gone but we still have our guns. WOW.

Unfortunately this issue is going to be troublesome for most clubs in the future, because of California. The NYS Conservation officers have recently switched to all lead free, Ecco safe bullets for their practice. We are sure this is just a start before the same type rules as in California apply here.

Those same eco snoobs that want to ban lead have probably killed more animals with thier hi performance cars running up and down the PCH than have died from lead poisoning

that single bird that they found dead, just had traces of lead in it, but lead was not the cause of death, more then thousands of birds die from eating plastic then lead, so ya

an to think, condors are not native to california, o, and more condors get killed while landing on top of powerpoles and spreading their wings and gettin fried, then lead,

just another excuse to try and tighten their grip on us

Remember the real issue is banning ammunition, not saving a few birds.

This sh*t is by the same bunch of tree huggers that wants the Polar Bear to be listed as an endangered species even though there is a record number of these carnivors that in years past - the idea is to ban indistry in the name of saving the bears.

For the tree huggars - Polar Bears is the cute little seal babies by ripping them in shredded pieces of bloody meat then eating them.

So - are there viable options to lead in cost and performance, or do we stock up now? I dislike what we're doing to our ranges - not that it's stopping me from shooting! Screw the kill-joys - figure out a way to make bullets from soybeans (or gas? hmmm...) and drive up the price of tofu.

yes but at GREAT cost. This is what ran me out of the duck blind. When you had to go from lead to steel was a price increase of about 25% I would say and then the jump to tungsten and bismuth and all the other so-called "lead equals" would be another increase in cost of almost 50% if not more.

I use Wingmaster HD - Runs about $3.50 per shell... But when I pull the trigger, stuff dies b/c of it..... Would I rather the cost be $0.25 per shell, you bet ya.

You are right on the 'Costs'. Stell has been proven to be 18% lethal at 25 YARDS.... think of the # of cripples and non recovered birds each year... Just going to play into their hands when they try to take away Steel... then everyone will be looking at $3.50 per shell - i.e. BAN hunting.....

In the spirit of "behind the berm" maybe you should practice more with your duck guns and be better shots so you wouldn't burn through so many shells.

It took quite a bit of humility before I did the same with my pheasant loads. We have to hunt with non-tox shot for pheasant out here in several areas, and I complained about dropping 10+ shots per trip at the cost of the "alternatives" other than steel that didn't work for crap. Umm.. yeah.. once I went with the #4 hevi-shot loads and actually patterned a couple, on top of actually shooting a few hundred shots through that actual gun before the season, I shot less than half as many shots, because I was actually connecting with birds on the first one most of the time. Those loads hit like a sledgehammer, even when I went down a shot size to get even better pattern. Just based on the clientelle of this board, I probably don't even have to give this speech, but once I started calculating how much the hunting trips actually cost and how tiny a percentage of that cost ammo was, I just used better ammo and stopped bitching. It would be like buying a $2500 smallbore silhouette rifle and paying $1000 to go to a big match for the weekend and then using Remington bulk pack ammo from Wal-mart that you spent $10 for 500 rounds on.

Exactly! I have made a few trips with less than 10 shots fired AND had my limit. I started taking other's limits for the first time this year. Killed 6 with 5 shots one morning (mounted the first duck of the morning )

I hunt in public areas where you can only carry in 15 shells. With a 4 duck limit(6 duck state, some WMA's are 4 ducks), who needs more than 15?

And like I said, when I pull the trigger, birds falls from the sky, not excuses like "Man I could not have missed" that is what others are saying while I pick up my birds...The stuff I use isn't 'as good' as lead, it MUCH better. I hunt with #6's in the timber, and you better be on your game or my M1 will help you get your birds! LOL

By the way, Remington had a $1.50 per shell rebate last year on the wingmaster shells (12 g load).
