Reports: Student fatally beaten in Mexico

HOUSTON (KTRK) –– A local high school student has been found murdered in Mexico, after her mother told police she went down there to learn how to transport illegal immigrants across the border.

On Tuesday night, friends and family gathered at the teen's Sugar Land home. Cars lined the driveway, people spilled outside.

And at Kempner High School, the loss of one the school's brightest students has been tough enough. :-o

"You know, you want to see everybody happy," said student Shaina Ituah. "We don't want violence. We don't want sad faces."

In the school's parking lot, Mandala's parking spot is filled with short eulogies and sweet goodbyes, but now students wonder whether the high school senior who loved Justin Beiber and riding horses at her family's stables led a double life.

"I've heard a whole bunch of rumors," said student Tamara Awofeso. "At first, I didn't believe it because it sounded like something out of a movie theater."

According to a Mexican newspaper, Elisabeth Mandala, 18, was found dead this past Saturday in the small Mexican town of Mina. Her body, along with those of two Mexican men, was found in a Dodge truck which appeared to have wrecked. But, according to the newspaper, authorities suspected the wreck was merely a cover-up for murder, believing the victims had been beaten to death hours before.

"It's horrible. It really is," said close family friend Sheila Mayo. "It's such a loss, such a loss. She just didn't have a chance to live her life."

Mandala, we have learned, was reported missing to Houston police on May 1. Her mother told authorities she had rented a car a few days earlier to go to Mexico to meet up with someone.

According to missing persons, her mother told police that she wanted to be a coyote –– a human smuggler. Her mother also told police Elisabeth was an exotic dancer. :-o

A COYOTE SMUGGLER/STRIPPER is one of the school's brightest? I would hate to see what the low end has to offer society from this school. L-)

Does her mother own the strip club and sell the drugs that the immigrants are bringing in? $-) After all she seemed mighty proud of her little girl. Your right Mike this get a huge "WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!" One less dumb ass bitch in the world. Maybe they should have a huge memorial and a statue made for her in her home town for being the bestest and brightest student. WHAT THE FUCK!!!! I bet her mother is going to try and bring a civil lawsuit againt the US for letting her cross the boarder and getting killed, "the government should have done more to protect by baby" give me a fucking break. The Mother is probably a crack whore to begin with.

That's quite a lot of ambition to have two careers going before she even got out of high school. Maybe those are the only two industries in town and she wanted to get a head start on her classmates. =))

No wonder we can't get kids interested in Silhouette! And all this time we thought video games were the competition.

No wonder some of my students think just signing up for my class rates a "B"! And just try to explain "Standards of Conduct"! They're gonna do to me what y'all couldn't!

Well, they sort of pay me for it. But only sort of. Teaching is a very odd profession because you're part social worker, part cop, and all student yourself. Posting on SC has become quite an outlet for me as I try to figure this stuff out and adapt to a moving target at the same time. It keeps me plugged in to other personalities that at least share a common interest.

Sorry - this shouldn't be a personal blog...
