I am just looking for clarification on some fuzzy things in the rulebook.
It's possible that silhouette shooters may be a little more sensative about a fuzzy rulebook than most diciplines. Evolution of equipmetnt in this sport has only come with much bitterness, a few people leaving the sport, and a lot of hue and cry over so called "cheater rifles" that conform to hunter class rules in all manner but happen to be farily expensive to buy/build. Every year folks call for more rules to "define" the paramaters, feeling somehow that there is some type of great equalizing factor built into a thick rule book. I personally think our rulebook is thick enough and "looks like a hunting rifle" is not ambigious to a reasonable person. And, being a match director, I really like the discretionary authority given the match director to implement the rules fairly.

There's nothing wrong with showing up with a supressor on an F class rifle, but if you do you should be aware that, like all who march to the beat of a different drummer, sometimes you are the only one who can hear the beat. And in those cases being gracious is the higher road than being right.

Keep asking questions, keep shooting, and when you see the need for change work positively to effect that change. Hope to shoot with you one day.

A lot depends on where you are shooting. The SB match we have in Mesa in pretty casual, we don't have a scale or a trigger pull gauge, the match costs a whole 5 bucks to shoot, and it basically is a fun shoot, but it can be as competitive as you want it, however if you shoot in Phx. at BA they have the scale and the weight to check triggers and that, so one match your taper wouldn't matter and the next match it would! The other difference being a thirteen dollar match. Between being an asst. match director, SB match director and a HP match director, I just finished up about ten years worth, I think it would be the understatement of all time to say that match directors recieve the kudos that they deserve.

Hey Hoser,

I have a 1712 in addition to the 1827. The Lilja barrel setup will cost less than 1/2 of a 1712, and if you want it in a Pharr stock, a whole lot less. The 1827 uses the 5018 trigger which is supposedly better than the 5098 trigger.......I'm not good enough to judge, they're both really good triggers. The 5018 has more adjustments. If you're a gadget guy. You can get the balance point of the rifle further foward with the Lilja barreled 1827 than the stock 1712 with the same overall weight. However, I can shoot better groups off the bench with my daughters stock 1710, than I can with any of my other guns. (that's why she always beats me) Bottom line. All of these guns will shoot plenty good to win, you gotta go with what fits you best, or what you want to build. If you have the money to buy both, do it. It's fun to bring a new toy out to play with. Just ask Paul. Whatcha bringin next weekend Paul?

Now for the dilemma... Order a new Lilja barrel for this 1827 or buy a 1712 just for hunter.

Last question.

Would a suppressor (silencer) be legal for either Hunter or Standard, or both? I legally own several and enjoy shooting with them. In fact, I wish they were mandatory sometimes.
Not to get technical, but to use a suppressor in another state from issue of cat 3 license. One must first contact local law enforcement and ask for permission to transport into said state and comply with use in said state, per federal ATF rules.

Nope.

Permission from local LE is not required, but having an ATF form 5320.20 with you helps if any issues arise.

I have two zero settings on my Sportsmans Team Challenge 10-22. One with a suppressor and one without it.

Lots of us in Colorado travel all over to different matches with our suppressors and other NFA toys. No issues at all. Just know the rules and have a copy of them and all the required forms with you.

You are correct when I said local law enforcement in referance to a ANY OTHER WEAPON ( AOW ) I was referring to the local BATF to verify the state you are traveling to allows possession of the type of NFA firearm you owen, and you have received prior approval on a form 5320.20 ( if applicable ).
