Just got back from Idaho on a week long hunt for muleys, no luck , snow kept them bedded down and hardly a thing was movin except for the elk, and me with no elk tag
getting one next year. Anyway I'm shooting a winchester model 70 supershadow in 7mm WSM, sightron up top, with barnes triple shock mrx pills in 140 grain with 58 grn of reloader 19. My back up gun or my close range(oh out to 200yrds) I'll use my 60's(can't remmber exactly what year) remington model 742 Woodsmaster in 30-06 with open sights with 180 core-lockt pills. Found it last year at the gun show new in the box for $550
If I miss with the first all I gots to do is pull the trigger again.

Pretty is as pretty does...Jim Beckley wrote:...Interesting enough the most accurate rifles right out of the box is a Savage, especially the old wood stock ones, I think they are a 110. They can shoot alright but they are just flat out butt ugly. I was in the Sportsman's Wharehouse the other day, they had a few upgraded Savage rifles in their rack, if they didn't look like a pig with earrings I don't know what does.

Thanks Bob, The only thing that picture is missing is a rainbow sticker and an Obama Button.

My theory is that if you buy a stainless/synthetic Savage rifle, you'll know it's accurate and you won't care if it gets scraped or scratched because it's already ugly. Not having to worry about either lets you concentrate on hunting. Now I just have to convince myself to take the Savage out instead of the old Mauser.Mach 2 wrote:While I agree the Savage line of centerfires aren't the prettiest girls in class, their reputation for accuracy is legendary. Isn't that what really matters most?
