Evelio; Apparently your concerns have fallen on deaf ears. The same excessive posters are still dealing out the same mindless drivel on a daily basis. If they want to chat about the weather or whatever else is on their minds they should get on Facebook. Al

I think alot of people feel the same way. I will see an interesting topic, but soon find myself wading thru countless meaningless posts not related to the subject. I think it also deters somemone from posting relative to the topic, feels like your interrupting a personal conversation.

You might try getting to know us, but you certainly don't have to play. Just ignore us in that case. For some of us, this is Facebook and the only chance we get to "talk" to friends from all over that we otherwise only see once or twice a year.

I think it is better than it was for content keeping more relevant to silhouette shooting in forums other than the Clubhouse and Behind the Berm. In those two, it's expected to be something other than straight silhouette talk. I'm not sure all the generalities being thrown around are typed with that in mind. If you don't want to see the other stuff, it's not all that hard to not click on Clubhouse or Behind the Berm. That said, if there's an occasional post that isn't specific data from a specific bullet in a specific rifle under specific atmospheric conditions, it won't f'ing kill you to read it. I promise. If you still think it might, feel free to head over to Graybeard's place. Evelio's post was decently warranted and it's been taken to heart from what I can see.

Not every spoken word at a match is silhouette data being traded either. Do you stop going to matches or complain to the match director if someone talks about something other than silhouette at a match? No? Then why do you do it here? Think of it this way. If there was some loudmouth at a match that was talking over everyone else about everything but silhouette, then you'd be perfectly justified in asking him to reign it in a bit. On the other hand, if some friends who only got to see each other a couple times a year were talking about past matches or joking on each other and you happened to be able to overhear it, you could either laugh at the funny parts or ignore it. You'd be stepping over the line to ask them to only talk about silhouette information while they were at the range.

There are quite a lot of people on this forum who have been shooting silhouette for a decade or more. I'm not one of them, and I really like having them around. Most of the stuff I'm still trying to figure out after shooting silhouette for a few years now is old news and boring to them. If they take a break from their revelry to answer my questions, which they always do, that's great. I get knowledge out of it and get to overhear (see previous match metaphor) conversations about matches past. Take away their time for revelry and reconnection with old friends and you take away much of the reason that they're here at all. If they were not here, it would be a great loss to all of us and there wouldn't be much reason for folks at my skill level to be here. By the same token, things that are now old hat to me are still a mystery to someone who is just starting to shoot silhouette. That knowledge that was handed down to me can get handed down to a new shooter, and I get to feel the pride of helping a newbie. Without those well-seasoned shooters (*cough* old farts *cough*), I wouldn't have had any reason to be here or been able to gain that knowledge that I could later hand down. It's all a cycle, and this place enables it for silhouette shooting on a scale that hasn't been seen before. Trying to lock every single thread to only silhouette data breaks the cycle.

To summarize, it was getting out of hand and Evelio was kind enough to bring it to everyone's attention. It's settled back into a comfortable level of data mixed with fun where it should be. If you really don't want to see any fun mixed with your data and even avoiding the Clubhouse and Behind the Berm is still too much, click here and enjoy.

Tell Graybeard we said hi and that we hope all that stuff with the law that made them have to use www.go2gbo.com instead got straightened out. I'm not an admin here and have no authority whatsoever, but I'm getting about as tired of complaints about people posting anything other than silhouette data as Evelio was about it happening before.

Jason, BB, I quote one of the old timers who does not take the time to get on this site....way too much "common knowledge" to be bothered reading or contributing answers to questions. This old timer was calling an air rifle relay on the line at a very large match, when a 'new crossover' from one of the more strict disciplines complained about the spotters around him talking. Her response " Ready....This is silhouette, we talk honey, get over it....Fire"
I am obviously not that range officer as I do respond to some of the questions with my opinion, and experience, which has worked for me or someone I have coached/spotted for in the past.

I for one have learned my lesson. My therapist says if I don't have anything intelligent to post, refrain. That's why you don't hear from me much anymore. And who do have to thank for this important discussion? Tbone, of course. That idiot could fall into a septic tank and come out wearing two Rolexes.

There should always be a balance between meaningful discussion and trivia here.
You can call it 'Bullshit' if you like, but then one might be accused as being devoid of humour.

You don't want to get too serious in life. You're a long time dead !

There is obviously a place for banter here, as there is for competition info, club info, match results, load data, and people seeking information.
I'm sure everyone is also interested in what everyone else is shooting, the ammo they use, and their experiences.

My message to the moaners is, if everyone got off their butts and posted something of interest here, then there would be less to complain about.

A forum is the sum of it's members, and only as interesting as the members choose to be in their posts.

Time to kick a bit of ass, methinks !

cheers,
Sean in 'Godzone'

I don't buy the old friends excuse. There are lots of ways to communicate with others. email, private message, instant message, telephone, letters... all tried and true methods to share thoughts without subjecting the public to inane and valueless banter. It would seem, however, that for some it is more important to see their words in print. Adding value to the discussion is secondary at best.

I was encouraged when the clubhouse and behind the berm sections were created. I was hoping to be able to avoid all the nonsense while reading posts. A great idea but it didn't work. Even in this thread folks were unable to refrain from dragging it down. Too important to be clever. I stopped coming by about a year ago for this very reason. Looks like things haven

Hi All

As this topic has nothing to do with shooting or technical information and now almost onto a 4th page shoudn't it be in The club house.

Most of the topics get answered, does it matter if there is some bull s#@t and s#@t stirring as well, this has always been a part of shooting ever since I've been involved in the sport not just silhouette.
