Re: Dual Purpose Budget Build?
Not tough at all, Mary! I met enough tough real quick to rethink career options. Have you heard the one about the beer, the bucket , the cat and the new recruit? As for dogs, a knife, and a video camera, it does sound like a "Hey y'all, watch this!" moment.Innocent wrote:Jerry....we are talking about BB here, marine or not he has a lot more talk than he does tough!!!
LOL, but then any excuse under the sun to buy/build another gun.
BTW BB how 'bout a Marlin 357 carbine?

John, thanks for the offer, but I don't borrow your toys anymore - there's always always a hook in those worms. Besides, I just wanted to kill 'em, not clean & cook 'em at the same time.

Multitasking is fine but I'm not sure who gets the worse end of those rounds - input or output. My shoulder hurts thinking about it! You want tough? Those folks were tough! Of course, I haven't noticed Kitty loading many rounds for those two...

What is wrong with a 6.5X47 for hog hunting? If you are hunting over bait from a box blind then it shoud be fine, particularly if it meets hunter specs. If you are following dogs then you want something very light for carrying and without a scope for shooting at point blank range.
I hunt hogs with a husband/wife team. The wife uses a heavy, very accurate custom .243 from a box blind and kills a lot of hogs. She is very small and very recoil sensitive.

Yeah, what are we thinkin anyway?? Chicken George killed a big bear with a sharp stick...a .6.5X47 ought to be good for one of our Arkansas hogs....though they do run in packs...and are very agressive...and are easily pissed off...and they do have that thick hide thing going on....my 45-70 starting to sound better BB??

Nothing wrong with the 6.5x47! And no I'm not going hog hunting with a sharp stick - or Chicken George either...
I'm just reluctant to carry a nice target rifle through the brush! Dropped into a Bell & Carlson stock maybe, but not the Nesika that may or may not be replaceable.

Bob,
I took my 6.5x47 hunter rifle on a hunt in Feb. Killed 4 hogs one at just over 400 yrds and he drop in his tracks. I just used some 140gr spir points instead of match bullets. How often you drop your gun, I can only remember once in 30 years and the stock survived. I built my guns to use, like for them to look good but function is more important.

Re: Dual Purpose Budget Build?
I agree... I use mine for hunting too...
Besides BB if you don't you just give more argument to these rifles 'not' being hunter class rifles. I bought mine to use for everything about all I do differently is add a camo sock over the stainless barrel so there is no flash while in the woods.
Your right Paul, how many times do you drop your rifle, in all the years I can't count any.

Wouldn't dream of trying, Mary!Innocent wrote:Bad, Good ...whatever we will not change.

And there's no doubt a 6.5 would drop a pig, and Bob I like your idea of a sock over the barrel. And you also have a good point about these being hunting rifles. They really are - better tuned than most, which just makes them more capable.
