Vest Preference?
Newbie looking at the Hardscrabble mesh/leather vest for $125 but would like to know more about Marco Sanchez's vests or any other options. Don't believe he has a website so does anyone have any pics? Ostrich sounds pricey. Thanks.

Re: Vest Preference?
bugabob,
I have both Hardscrabble and Marco Sanchez and have shot with both....so here are some of the advantages and disadvantages for each.
Hardscrabble, heavy, (unless you go to the mesh versions), quite warm, lower grade leather, and not as heavy a shoulder pad for butt.
Marco, very lightweight leather(an advatage if you fly much in keeping the weight down), cooler, he does have several grades of ostrich, and the shoulder pad is thicker (a big plus when shooting high power), and it conforms to the butt of the stock tighter.
Both have the advantage of reducing the visible heart beat motion of the rifle in the scope, places to carry magazines, ammo, small tools as needed.
Then if you get into "bling" there is the "classy color cordination" or the very sophistcated look....a personal preference.
259 is correct I do have some photos of my Marco vest, they are on my work computer (as an old photo finisher...it is difficult for me to get into the digital photos) and if you will pm or email me I'll forward some photos for you.
I would recommend either vest, depending on what weather you shoot in, how uch you travel (where weight can be a factor), how tight you like to pull the butt of the stock into your normal position, using it primarily for HP or SB....Both Chris and Marco are great guys and very easy to work with, and I've had no problems with either vest.

How do I contact Marco? Does he have a website? I'm also looking for a new vest for the 2010 season.
Thanks, Tom

I spoke to him a couple days ago and am waiting for him to e-mail some pics and order form. He did mention that his standard vest is $210.

HardScrabble is the other major vest maker, Chris Winstead, from Montana.

Re: Vest Preference?
Hard Scrabble vests are the one's you see most everybody wearing. Ive got one of his leather vests and I love it. Its a little warm in the summer, but up here in warshinton it only gets to about 50 in the summer so im good and its also waterproof which comes in handy

Re: Vest Preference?
If you wear one of Chris Winstead's heavy leather vests a few summers down here in the land of heat and humidity they take on a "personality" of their own. The one I just retired still growls at me when I walk past it in the Kitty Cave....It was well loved, and well traveled. Most of the fur rubbed off of it but it never wore out. Chris and Cathy got together and picked out new colors and Chris measured me for a new one at the Natioanls this year, this time a top grain leather one instead of the suede...guess he finally got embarrased by me telling everyone "This is a Hardscrabble Mtn vest, and, no it didn't come with that smell it earned it" lol. Great people, great vests.

I'm pretty sure this is it. It's being kinda slow to come up right now, though.
