We had very good luck with the 107 SMK's and 198 Scenar's in Kolby 260 with a Bartlien 1:8 twist barrel. Somewhere around 36 grains of Varget was the ticket I believe. In my experience the 107 SMK's and the 108 Scenars are not interchangable. They seem to respond to slightly different loadings, sometimes as little as 1/2 grain being huge. The 123's were the best overall performers. Just my 2 cents FWIW. Other here have MUCH MORE experience with the .260 than I.

Malinois, I shoot 107's match kings in a .260 case and have very good results at the range and on the targets. My hunter rifle has a Lilja 8 twist on it and my standard has Pac Nor 3 groove. I load them both with 37 grains of Varget and have no issue's with them at all. Some of the guys up here in the great wet north use them as well with no issues. I'm wondering if maybe its your barrel; im no expert 8-} but i would look at my barrel first is so many other guys are having sucsess with them. OR maybe its a bad batch from Sierra. #-o

When I first started shooting with a 6.5, I had a .260 in my SR and a 6.5x55 in my HR. I started with 107's, but when Sierra came out with the 123's, I started playing around with them. There were no accuracy issues with the 107's, but I think that the 123's were a little better in the wind. All of my 6.5 cal barrels have been Kreigers with an 8 twist. I use the 139 Lapuas for the rams, I seem to loose less of them than with the Sierra 142's. Just my .02.

Just what I suspected...I did not think the bullets were at issue but I had to ask. I just got it back from Evelio and its a new barrel less than 75 rounds on it and I shot 36.5 grains of Varget. Its a Kreiger 1-8 twist # 5 conture. Its striging them on the horizontal like a pendulum left, right left, right. I sent the scope off to leupold...got it back and the same issue continues....so I am thinking the scope is bad and was not fixed correctly. so off to leupold again.

When I suspect a scope problem I usually mount it on another gun and check it our before I send it back to the manufacturer. At least this seems like the logical first step to me.

Yep.. try on a different gun, or with different mounts, or try a different scope on that same gun in the same mounts.

Malinios...I agree with Jason, try that scope on a different gun before you say it is the scope.

Malinois, It doesn't need to be difficult. On your rimfire rifle place a piece of tape on the top of your rear scope ring. Now place a piece of tape on your scope tube either in front or behind the rear ring. Make sure the edge is touching the ring. Take a sharpie marker and draw a line from the tape on the rear ring to the tape on the scope tube. Remove the scope, test it on your other rifle. Now when you go to put your scope back on your rimfire you line the pieces of tape back up and the marker lines back up and your scope is now where it was before you removed it. Eye relief and cant (if any) are restored. Also, I have a 1-8 twist Krieger barrelled 260 that for the first 100 shots or so was a dog. It shot much worse than the 7-08 factory barrel I had removed. Once it broke in it is now easily the most accurate centerfire that I own and one of the most accurate 260's I have ever seen. It actually performs better with the 107''s when using H4895 or Benchmark than with Varget. If you have any of those powders, give it a try. Barring a defective scope, or loose mounts, I'm sure you will find something that will work for you given you already have a quality barrel and gunsmith. BTW I now use 123's for C-P-T. These are very easy to get to shoot. Very tolerant of seating depth and load. If you can't get the 107 to work don't be afraid to try the 123's.

Thanks !!...I did want to shoot those 123 's I like them alot...as for being a pain its more about time our local range for hp only goes to 100 yds and its run by a bunch of backward loosers...they wont let me shoot small bore swingers because its a recochet hazard but right next door the local swat and police shoot up steel plates with MP5's where is the logic so I really hate going there. I sure hope it gets sorted out ...I have Hi Hopes for the accuracy potential of the Kreger.

Malinois, ditto on what Varn said about break-in. I have had four Kreiger # 5 260's and they all needed a little time to settle in. It also seemed to me they shot better after the brass was fire-formed. I have had great results with 38.0 grs. of Varget with the 107's. It seemed to me the more powder i used the smaller my groups got. They are not excessively hot either. However I would suggest to start lower and work up. My four guns have also shot well with the SMK's with 38.0 of Varget also. I would not recomend any higher though. I don't get any pressure signs, but my ram load primer pockets loosen up after a few loadings. I am still working with three of these guns. One for practice, one for the matches, and one on deck ready to go. The first one I had went south after 6500 rounds, which I thought was a good life for a smaller bore. After I get a number of rounds through a match gun I do my testing by shooting at the head of our turkey swinger. A good shooting gun should be able to but five rounds in the head firing from sand bags, baring any conditions. When I can't get that result any more it goes off to the gunsmith for an new barrel and put into my three gun rotation. Al

After playing with the 6.5 for 20 some years here is what I have found. Some barrels just don't like the sierra 107. They are not as user friendly as the 120, 123, 140,142. If they don't work switch.

Some barrels require break in. I have had a couple shilens that settled in at about 350 rounds. And have had a couple schneiders that shot under an inch at 200 while doing the initial shoot and clean.

The break in problem may have more to do with the reaming of the chamber. Did the smith use a piloted chamber ream or a solid pilot ream? the bur from the solid ream will take a few more rounds to wear down the bur than a piloted ream will.
