Oh,one other bizarre thing scopes do...if the windage is too far off center, even if the scope will let you shoot a group, it may have an "S" shaped elevation pattern as you crank the knob up. It never hurts to use a collimnator/borescope to take a look at what is going on. If you don't have one, see if you can borrow one.
