They don't have to be expensive. Only if you want them to be.

Re: Wood Pharr like stock
$1000 for a stock and that doesn't include the wood itself? For a little more I could buy my own duplicator and use my Synthetic Pharr stock for the pattern. Then I'd have a Pharr wood stock and a machine to make as many more as I wanted or make other stocks as well.

It should be possible to make that stock shape, using a laminated blank (something like Boyd's does), and keep the price relatively low. You can currently buy almost any of Boyd's stocks in uninletted and unfinished condition for less than $100. Having this Pharr style stock avaialable in that configuration could be a big cost saver.
This would be a great low-cost option for shooters who would like the shape and feel of a Pharr style stock, but don't want to spend the money for an expensive composite or conventional walnut stock.

Re: Wood Pharr like stock
Who is it that builds stocks from a composite/walnut sandwich? It's just a single sheet of composite between two slices of walnut so it has gorgeous wood around a stable middle.

I'd buy one of those, if they made it for a CZ Varmint.

You don't have to spend $1K though.
Treebone can carve a Pharr stock in Walnut for as little as $250 plus shipping. Plus, if you want a lighter wood stock you can go with maple (25%) lighter in weight, and maple is generally less expensive than walnut unless you want a highly figured one like in the photos on page 1 of this thread. I went up to $325 on mine to get a slightly nicer blank, but that was as high as my budget would allow. Once it arrives I will post photos.

Look at the bright buddy...at least she is not due at the end of the summer that last trimester gets a bit heavy and with fine south Florida summers you would really hear it. As for ... Egberts rifles, I'm sure we'll have those ready soon enough.

Rifles, scopes, ammunition and gear is way better than bail, lawyers and fines! I'd love to buy 'em for my kids, but they want tuition, books, darn the luck! Thank God I have great kids instead of the kids I deserve!

Re: Wood Pharr like stock
Received my stock from Treebone Carving today. I have to say that I am impressed. I have ordered stocks from the more common carvers and received much more "rough" exteriors. The outside of this stock only requires finish sanding. Price was $320 to my door. George included on my receipt some details about the wood. It is quarter sawn california walnut from the year of 1980. I hear that 1980 was a good year for walnut.

That looks like it will polish up right nicely. Good to know there is a source for these as I am being tempted to build a HP rifle and really love the way my Syn stock feels/fits/holds. Post pics when you are done with it please.
