John,
To do it would cost between 800 to a 1000 dollars, at that price an annie 1712 is only $325-525 more so I guess it is to each his own, trigger is good on the 504 as good as any kimber or sako I have owned and handled, but not quite the annie. Also the 1416 is right there or lower and has the same trigger as it's big brother. Then there is the browning 52's if you can find them, also the new browning A bolt.
But who am I to say, I own one and have sold all my kimbers and sako's but not this one and a browning 52. As they say actions speak loader than words.
Would I do it again, in a heart beat. But then again I just love to shoot .22's and try to squeze every ounce of accurracy out of them. Just ask chicken about his mod.60 marlin and a 4x scope one bushy tail getter.
All this talk has got me thinking about putting a zeiss 3.5-10 scope on that remmy and go limb rat terrorizing in the morning.
Takes a very big man to whip a 2lb tree rat, or just one
Phat Dawg....LMAO

First, I acknowledge the Aunschutz 1712 is a gold standard everything else is measured against. With that over, let's - as Kitty says - look at the numbers.
Shop smart and patiently, and you'll find a Remington 504 for around $400. I have two and paid $446 (rifle, shipping and FFL transfer fee) for one and $404 for the other (don't ask - it gets complicated) for an average price of $425. Your mileage may vary.
On the downside, both barrels sucked (again, don't ask - it gets complicated), but the trigger is nice, the stock is a decent Boyd's walnut sporter, the trigger guard is well done (I raise this point for anyone that has seen a CZ), the bolt is smooth and if you like rigid receivers... If you're patient, persistent and polite, Remington will fix the barrel. But if you want to go straight to a one hole wonder, Dan Lilja's your man. $335 for a barrel, $20 for the go gauge, and - SWAG because I haven't ordered one from him - $10 for shipping for a sub-total of $365.
Pillar bedding supplies from Brownells cost about $25 for nice aluminum pillars and Acraglas Gel if you feel like doing it yourself (despite earlier plans to the contrary, I will - I'm saving for a 1712, remember?) Okay, let's total this up:
$425 - Remington 504
$365 - Lilja Barrel, go gauge and shipping
$25 - Bedding Supplies
-----
$815
This will shoot very, very well and is similar to the experiment Evelio is running, except his will use a 1712 barrel (amazing what he has just laying around!)
