Of course, regarding mounts, where you live is just a short way from Metalhead shop. I would take my gun down to Marvin's shop and let him fit me. To my knowledge, no one is better at that than Marvin is...

Well, I want to decide what position I want to use and therefore what height rings I want. Then I'll go to Marv and get a one-piece mount with a 20-degree or so slope built-in.

The BKL 's have been good to me. I have two sets of Marvins's mounts that were great when I was using the McMillian Stock on my heavy gun and the McMillian sporter stock on my hunter gun. When I switched to Mark Pharr split finger stocks the higher comb forced me to a BKL mount, which was higher. Not a problem. The Pearson Mounts have the advantage of the absolute supreme in machine work being applied, the BKL's had the advantage of fit. I honestly don't know what I could do to the BKL''s to make them fit better. My litmous test, as you will, is closing my eyes and getting comfortable in the gun an then opening them. The BKL's are right there for me, may not be for some others as body types do vary (You are most likely aware that I am not a small person). Of course, everyones body shape and position on the rifle will dictate the ring height. Everyone's mileage will vary on this discussion. I am a firm believer that the gun must fit before you will be competitivie with it and the proximation between the height of the rings and your body is a big part in the formula. I was lucky that the BKL's fit me, if not then it's a whole nuther ballgame.
