Pharr stocked 1712 for sale???

Hey everyone,

I know its been a while since Ive been on here. Its been a busy year for me at work and I haven't gotten to get out and shoot many matches this year. I've been thinking about selling my 1712. There are a few reasons for this. First (and main reason), I have worked most saturdays this year and even when I get off on the weekend, it seems like there is always something happening that prevents me from going to the local matches. I have made it to maybe 5 so far this year. Second, the new wife wants new furniture. Third, I need to cut down on the evil credit card debt.

I have been thinking I may sell the 1712 and either get another CZ or put a barrel and stock on a 77/22 I have laying around. I can't justify having an expensive rifle I am only going to shoot a handful of times a year, especially if its only club level matches and I am not to worried about scores. BUT this rifle is so nice and shoots so well!

Anyway, how much is the going price for a 1712 in a Pharr stock these days? I am still on the fence about the whole thing, so feel free to convince me to keep it.

Replacement costs will be much higher....working every Saturday etc is temporary in the overall picture of things.

If I were you , I would keep the rifle ! On another note , if you do to sell I would probably be interested .

Keep it and sell the old furniture....I have not been able to shoot at any of the nationals or big matches in years...my job lets me shoot the local club match thats about it....but I know like mary said its only a temp thing. I am not selling mine because you never know what can happen down the line and I might get to travel again and shoot.

Putting a barrel and stock on another rifle will easily cost more than half as much as you'll get for the 1712, and you won't have as good a rifle when it's done. As Mary said, if you try to replace it later it will cost you more than you can get for that one now. If I were you, I would sell the 77/22 and use that as a starter for saving for new furniture. I have been where you are right now, right after I got married, and sold off a rifle and a couple other things I wish I hadn't. The money that I got from them seemed important then but it ended up not helping all that much. That was over 10 years ago and I still regret it. If I were you, I wouldn't sell them until it came down to a "sell it or be homeless" situation.

I agree with Jason and the other posters. Keep the 1712 and sell something else Most shooters, I've met over the years that have sold rifles in the past regret it today.

Here is what you do. Go to Wal-Mart and buy two beanbag chairs and a barstool, go home and tell the new wife you just got her new furniture. Certainly being a new wife she can't have you that far in the dog house already I hope. She will get over it eventually and you can keep your rifle Close one huh? lol If she complains just make note of how the beanbags are versatile and can be Lazyboys or pushed together the two form a love seat

I just got my Pharr 1712 last year and I never plan to part with it even if I wasn't able to get out and shoot for awhile. Your rifle is probably worth at least $1800-2000 without seeing its condition. I want to say I paid right at 2 grand for mine once it was shipped and FFL transfer etc. I wouldn't sell it for $2500 today I love it so much!

Dee, If I take your advice I will have to sell my rifle anyway because I'll be getting divorced and will need to hire a lawyer.

Thanks everyone for the support. I am still considering selling and buying another rifle. Not that I'm not happy with my 1712, I just have always wanted to build a rifle myself. And I am always wanting something different. The furniture isn't that big of a deal, and the credit cards will get paid off just in time to use them to buy christmas presents. What it really comes down to is, do I want to sell this awesome rifle and go my own way on another build??? I'm kinda leaning to yes because I can also get started on an M4 build (which would be great for work training) in addition to a new silhouette rifle. Now that I have been contemplating it for a few days, I kinda want to build something based around a Richard's Microfit Prone stock. The gears are turning in my head, but this is a hard decision.

My inbox is already getting some messages about the rifle. Some guy in Nigeria already offer $12,000 for it, but he says he can only send a check. If I decide to sell I'll make a post here to give everyone a heads up.

Furniture?
Buy what you can afford and pay cash for it.
If that means one piece a month so be it.
Credit card debt is a bad idea.
Having a happy wife makes life much easier.
No doubt you should put your idea of selling away and focus on your marriage.
I work for the happy wife daily.
Who is also looking for a 1712 but not yours brother...keep it.

Man I didn't mean to sound like I am in a situation where I have to sell a gun or go bankrupt and get divorced! I am just merely thinking out loud. The credit cards are not a big worry. The two we have are very low limit and are not even near maxed out. The furniture is also just a thought. The wife wants furniture, but she isn't going to divorce me because I wouldn't buy her everything she wants. The real question is, how much do I like this rifle. It shoots great, and it has improved my scores somewhat, but do I really love it? I don't know. I seem to always want to go against the crowd and selling my 1712 would free up some cash to do another custom build. Decisions. Decisions...

Keep the 1712 as your "go-to" silhouette rifle and tinker with other rifles as funds permit. 1712's are hard to love because they lack personality; they simply do their job without getting fussy. What other rifles inspire that kind of confidence?

easier to find a good deal on new wife. BUT if you like the one you got keep her and the annie. good for you G 'oW. it is after all a hobby. good points from all, in 3 yars when your schedule opens up replacing the 54 will be crazy expensive. on the other hand if you get the ruger rocking why would you want to? half the fun with this sport is messing with the gear(like in archery) imagine a 77/22 in a pharr with a sweet trigger. nice and not cookie cutter. it would be like getting into
the sport all over again, and that is about the best experiance silhouette can give anyone,
