Open Sight Silhouette shooting

Post by 1armoured »

Our club shoots 'Open Sight' airgun silhouettes at Pistol/Handgun Silhouette distances, with vintage/lower powered air-rifles.
We shoot in the same detail with the pistol shooters.
We also do a bit of paper 3P at 10mtrs.

Anyone else do this ?

Great fun getting the old gear out and dusting them off.

We picked this up from the South African SIlhouette Nationals,
where they do something similar.

We shoot mainly BSA, Diana and Gecado, and Weihrauch rifles with standard post and bead front and iron rears.

Our record so far is 38/40. (10, 9, 9, 10)

For old timers like me, it is nostalgia, back to the days when I started shooting.
The younger lads just shake their heads and wonder which way round you hold the rifle ! :D

The chickens are quite hard to pick up, even at 10yds.
The Rams give a pretty good sight picture.

Here are some pics;

Good thing you have the netting or you'd never find them flying chickens in that brush ;)

Sean, you have kept a low profile here. Good to see a post from you. Those pictures bring back nice memories of the good time I had shooting Field Target airgun with you guys back in March 09. That is the same range, correct?

Are those Marksman 2004 or Beeman pistols? I have the Marksman that I got at Wal-mart for nearly nothing and that thing shoots great.

Hi Bob,

Hope you're well. "Hit 'em hard and hit 'em with a .308" ! :D

Yup, same range, just a different angle from what we were shooting at.

The pistols are generally German Weihrauch HW40's (Beeman were selling their rebadged model, but now the Beeman's are made in China)
Mostly with red dot sights,
but anything goes in our shoots.
Any pistol,...any sight !

The netting is essential . The berm and gutter under the rail needs a bit of weedkiller, as well, now that Summer is promoting growth !

I'm always scratching around for the last chicken ! Fortunately they're sprayed fluoro orange/

cheers,
Sean S
