I'm bit!

Post by glen ring »

After just a few days of shooting my pellet pistol I'm bit. Now I'm looking for a more accurate single stroke. I've read a great deal about the FWB-100 series, the Daisey 747 and the IZH pistols. I'm going to the Big gun show in Tulsa this weekend and will be looking. I want to shoot silhouette and just plink around the house. What Pistol would you veteran air pistol guys recommend. I may need to put some kind of scope on it as these targets are VERY small.

For the money a IZH-46M is hard to beat. The FWB is much nicer fit and finish with slightly better ergonomics but probably no more accurate. The little bit we tried shooting air pistol sils I found that trying to taco hold a pistol with a rifle scope on top was about as unnatural and bassackwards causing my elbow to hurt. Shooting my Aeron B97 I was able to post a Master score using open sights and after that the thrill was gone for pistol sils lol.

Daisy gives very consistent velocity and excellent accuracy, but it's hard to take advantage of that because of the trigger.
The plastic bolt is off putting also.
The IZH has a world class trigger (not hyperbole) and you have to at least triple the money to get any improvement at all, and the increment won't be much.

When a man(frog5215 in this case) from Fort Worth says something about a Air Pistol I pay attention. More than likely that fellow is shooting a Match every Tuesday night at the Haltom City Gun Club.

We shot one of the Tuesday night matchs there a few years ago. Drove 8 hours one way. It was worth it. This is what you would hear one of the locals say. "Dang, missed that one. Its only going to be a 39 tonight."

Those guys at Haltom City aren't just satisfied with Master class scores in Air Pistol. They are after the 40 and practice enough that they expect it every Tuesday night.

You are right in putting a scoped IZH 46M together first. Go with the Taco rifle scope mount that Fenton Sandlin machines first before you put a Iron Site IZH together. Fenton's mount has a down slope to get you out to the Rams without any trouble. I just use a cheap 3 to 9 rifle scope with Target Turrets and I do not feel under-scoped. The Taco hold with a rifle scope is the way to go and a whole lot more fun once you get used to it.

Two weeks ago I bought an IZH 46M for $300 at the gun show. The only problem is the upper and lower seals on the breach block were missing, otherwise it was like new. I called EAA in Cocoa and ordered the seals ($9 +$7 shipping). Even with the missing seals and my bad eyes, it still grouped about 2-3" at 10m (offhand). I'll report back when I get the parts. Now all I need is match to shoot it in.

I have a FWB80 and it is really nice. The FWB 65 is very similar.
