Best gun

Post by Evelio Mc Donald »

Hey James, the 18 years Glennlevitt will do just fine, don't know about 100 pipers, and yes I will be able to tell the difference up till about the 6 drink, who cares after that !!!!!! I would probably be sleep by then.
John I'll take you up on that, see you all in Jacksonville.
Oh by the way, I have build two rifles with 25 1/2'' barrels, they balance fine, the only problem, they do slows the bullett somewhat, and you also need to keep it on target longer.

Evelio,

It must have done fine you have drank enough of mine over the years. LMAO

No problems though, I know you are concerned about my health and just saving my liver........but that will never hold up in court.

So now I have to run a liquor store to support my silhouette habit?! Granted, I have been intoxicated with this hobby, but...

The best

Post by Evelio Mc Donald »

Guys, you are all making it sound, like we are a bunch of alcoholics, we started talking about building rifles, and ended up in about 3 cases of Scotch so far, why don't we drop it there, and each one of you bring one bottle of your best, and will have a contest about which is best, along with which is the best BLINC rifle on the line.
We are planing on being in Jacksonville on Thursday afternoon, that should give us plenty of time to party around, and maybe help Chuck get the range ready, I kind of feel sorry for him, he don't like Scotch.
By the way Bob if you are really serious about redoing your 504, I will be glad to do my magic on it, but if you want it for April you better get on the ball. I presently have 6 to work on.
Cheers .

Evelio, I plan to compete with nearly stock 504's this season, but may send one to you late this year for the full treatment so it's ready for the 2008 season. I just don't know enough about this sport yet to talk to you intelligently about my wants and needs - 2006 was my first season and I just barely made AA, so the rifle isn't holding me back yet.

On another note, an old high school friend of mine knows Remington on the inside pretty well and says the decision to drop the 504 was made two years ago, and that it was based on the age and condition of the tooling used to manufacture the barrels - about fifty. That explains the bore problems in the 504, and Remington's decision to use Shilen barrels on the 547. He laughed when I told him about my experiences and said Remington didn't build rimfire rifles for people that thought in terms of sub-MOA groups, but for the Bubba that compensates with volume of fire (read that "semi-automatic") and gets his stuff at Wal-Mart.

REM.

Post by Evelio Mc Donald »

Hey Bob, you tell your buddy at Remington what they were thinking when the build the fantastic 40X, I know the old folks at Rem. did not build them to shoot beer cans with it, neither the 513 or 540, their biggest problem is that the real designers, and custom guys are all gone. SHAME

What can I say, Evelio? It wasn't what I wanted to hear or believe, but it explains too many things. It doesn't explain why they bothered to design and build the receiver, bolt and trigger group used on the 504! They're a barrel shy of an excellent rifle.

Which means I'm a barrel and silhouette stock short of an excellent silhouette rifle. And a lot of practice and mind work (call it training if you prefer) short of being a good shooter.

Kitty, you were right. I routinely complicate simple decisions with idealism and wishful thinking, and then get to dig my way out. It has taken time to accept that there are only three serious players in this market: CZ, Kimber and Anschutz. So now I'm upset with myself, and that's no time to make decisions, so maybe later I'll make a course adjustment.

Sometimes, your purpose in life is to confirm conventional wisdom. Is that burning fur I smell, or just Eley primer?
