AZ State High Power Champs 2011... Pics!

Post by Trent »

First and foremost... A huge THANK YOU! goes out to Jim and Nancy for running the match. Also, they had a lot of help with setting targets, posting scores and calling the matches. A big thank you goes to those folks as well!! It was one SMOOOOOTH running match and I will be back next year. :-bd

Now some photos. I didn't take as many as I would have liked, but there was some paparazzi running around... maybe some more photos will show up. :D

The Guru and Tom Bant show. This is the Guru's best side. If you look him directly in the eyes you immediately start uncontrollably muttering 7mm-08 ballistic information.
Image

Jim Goodnight and Lee O'niel. These guys kept confusing the match with a social event and nearly missed a relay or two.
Image

Jim Goodnight putting the smack down on Turkeys trying to get finished up before the pending storm rolls in.
Image

David Bonner and his perfect form.
Image

Here he is over exaggerating the recoil so that we actually think his little baby 6.5x47 actually has some Uummmph! I've never seen Rams fall so slowly. He sure was putting them to sleep though!!
Image

Scott Dahms all bundled up. Saturday was an abnormal Spring day in Phoenix to say the least.
Image

Dave told me that my Nosler 150 BTs were too pretty to shoot. I think they look better splattered all over some Pigs (although more than a few of them ended up making neat little holes in the dirt  )
Image

I did manage to sneak up to the awards table though. That's my ugly mug. :D
Image

Doesn't get any happier than that! David Bonner.
Image

Lee O'Neil. Both he and David made a few trips up to the awards table,.

Trent, Nice pics, no telling what the paparazzi guru will show up with, but there was some serious discussion about him and his camera. That 7-08 muttering was almost too much, especially after he rang some rams.

Dear Innocent, dozens of rams fell to my pair of sevens, especially during the nice Friday practice conditions. ONLY ONE all weekend failed to die with a great hit. Unfortunately it counted for score. :x The Sierra 168 gr. cruise missle did what it does best. KILLS RAMS DEAD. 8)

Hey, Congrats to Jerry Webster for taking the SR, and to Kyler Monares for taking the HR! Nice to see everyone again even Bob! Good to see Dave B, and the two new guys who shot really well, and let's not forget Mary! I had a hard time trying to shoot, all she wanted to do was read the poem. I hope everyone had a good time! The rain sucked on Saturday, but we really needed it.

Thanks Jim,

It was sorta odd on Saturday.
Even though it was pouring rain, I was seeing everything so clearly.

I think it was because I finally had my head outta my #$%, haha!

My brain came back and lowered my score alittle on Sunday but, I had a great Hunter Rifle score afterward.

I ended on a sour shot, If I dropped it any more before I fired I would be missing a toe.
At least 10 feet low eeehaw!

Good Luck with your job in Morenci Jim.

JB...I do not recall even seeing the poem, let alone seeing it long enough to get my glasses out to read it!
Congrats to Kyler and Jerry, some great shooting with those two. McAlice, still had a ringer with a 168, you know the problem is that there is a '6' in that number, nothing about a '7'.

Thanks Jim and Nancy for a well run match.

Something really amazing happened during the awards ceremony on Saturday and Sunday each time the Bob McAlice went up to received his award. The 7 08 mm Guru's fan club went in a loud chant saying Guru, Guru, Guru!! Jim Beckley was totally amazed at the fan club support he received during the awards ceremony. Personally I think he has some 6.5 shooters in his fan club. The only thing missing at the ceremony was the Guru's turban and prayer mats the his followers. It would be difficult to determine the number of fans the Guru had in attendance at the match but I would say it was considerable. The Guru can probably give us exact numbers if somebody was to ask him.

If you look at the results page you will see I won State Champion with a 32 aggregate score.
It clearly shows our local bias when it comes to the awards.

Hey, I just took the the picture. One of those other jokers set that up. Never mind the dingers, just look at all those woodpecker holes in the poor cactus trees. Had to be from 6.5 shooters flinching real bad from that excessive recoil.
