really what do you have to lose, you are not shooting for a bag of twenties, after you get to AA then maybe you are in "need"

The Owensville match is a fun, casual shoot. It's not an NRA sanctioned match, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. You can shoot half the match from the bench if you want, it can help get your scope settings figured out.

The StL Benchrest shoot (NRA) is held at a top-notch club, with all concrete benches/shooting stations. We usually have "target setters" so that the shooters don't have to go and set their own targets. There are at least 20 benches on the line, so there is plenty of space between shooters.

The Green Valley shoot is NRA also. The range is much more narrow than the STL matches, meaning that you will be much closer to your neighbor. You will also be expected to walk downrange and reset your own targets.

Winnsboro is an awesome event. If you have any possibility of making that trip, it is WELL worth it.

thanks for pulling for me, but that is a Mueller APV, I have the Intensity on this. Oh and a guy from Grafs told me he thought the Intensity was the same as the Weaver 40/44

now that's funny, I have full intentions of shooting what I have until I can hit a few chickens, heck I may not even be able to hit a single target :(( .

I should hope so!

Speaking of Bi-fur-pods... I am going to go try and knock the hell out of some coyotes in the morning. Weather looks like it's going to cooperate other than a little wind.

Chromie, you may surprise yourself with what you can hit...bet you get more than one! Presuming the rifle is sighted in at chickens at least.

I have a couple spinning targets I made when I was working in a welding shop. I copied the chicken and turkey that belonged to a friend. I am going to take them to the Range tomorrow along with my range finder. I just want to see how bad it really is. I figure if I can hit a few turkeys I should be able to make a respectable first outing....:D

what do you guys think of these?

looks good to me!, i have some home made swingers made out of angle iron, i keep getting a "not valid format" when i am trying to post pics.

i was thinking of a meuller a while back for a fiend and the repeatablity reviews we not very good. ifthe intensity is the same a wa weaver 44 give it a go.

good luck with those swingers.

The swingers look fine to me, and don't worry about the hits...focus on the basics, NPA, trigger squeeze, breath control, and group size hold, to start out with. Kind of like shooting IPSCor IDPA, get the shots where they count the most safely, then let speed come with practice.

You better not give up if you only hit a couple of turkeys. They are tough to hit. I would suggest you start with pigs and experience the fun of hitting more than just a few. It will bild your confedence which is what everyone needs that shoot this dumb game.

FYI ...in line with Jetmug's posting the Bench Rest Club will have a dedicated smallbore silhouette range available soon. All of our silhouette matches (smallbore rifle, cowboy lever, Black powder cartridge, and high power/hunting rifle) are scheduled and sanctioned in advance. go to http://www.shootingstl.com for more info. You humble serpent runs the High Power AND I'm on the board of directors....so you can say you really have friends in low places :)) Or low friends in some places 8)

I have no idea what this is, I have never shot in any kind of competition, other than Archery. I am trying to make the switch from 3D archery tournaments to Silhouette.

I'm thinking if I put the chicken @ 40 and and the turkey @ 60 that would give me a good place to start practicing. I have another question now. are the targets set at the same distance for the Cowboy SB?

Chromie, distances for SB are 40, 60, 77 and 100 meters. Distances for Cowboy are the same as NRA Hunter's Pistol 40, 50, 75 and 100 meters.
