Re: Rumor
Must have been poor animal sets as a 6.5x47 doesn't ring em....Trent wrote:............ It would be a 6.5x47L that did the dingy.
Bonner had a single dinger on a Ram with his 6.5x47L...........
Ask Mary.. she was well into a long run at the Nationals on the Rams with a 6.5x47 and it wasn't a ringer that got her.

Re: Rumor
That was twix the snout and the front leg....now as for Bonner having ringing pigs, I'd say he was playing wimpy loads, but if there were some 7's ringing also I would have a hard look at the target setting. Something not right there.
Trent, so you are looking to purchase a new barrel soon eh? Bet there is some anticipated shots in the smallbore this weekend!

Re: Rumor
The question that I have, If someone that has that much experience (a Goatru no less) lines up on an animal four banks away, how am I supposed to help that? Didn't get much grief from Bob, but did get an ear full from his wife Sara, she certainly has a tongue that is sharp enough to cut paper, but shes got some work to do to get through steel, like I was used to!

JB , It's damed if you and Damed if you don't. Like he would have congratulated you if you spotted and he got 10 in a row... ya right.Jim Beckley wrote:The question that I have, If someone that has that much experience (a Goatru no less) lines up on an animal four banks away, how am I supposed to help that? Oh wait... He's shooting a 7-08, he would have rang at least 2 anyway

Re: Rumor
With regard to 'pig ringing and Ram dinging' ...I can only comment that our swine hardly stay on the rails...a breeze knocks them over so check your spotter before you accept pig dinging. Rams? ...well that's another tale of woe....but apparently cross firing and shooting the wrong target seems to have helped.
Memo to Trent: the temperature both days was 90+humidity 75%...your barrel will stay warm...its not going to 'cool off'

Re: Rumor
Almost forgot......Bonner, McAlice, Beckley and Mitchell were given the tour of the range and shown how the rams are set on pads and how they tip very readily (except when there's a north wind or jackets come apart prematurely or one uses a 6.5)

Re: Rumor
The tour of the range in St. Louis was great. It really is a beautiful range, and the animal set up is great. Those black animals really stand out against the white berms.
I've personally never rang any animals (7-08), but then again I'm not hitting nearly the volume that Bonner, McAlice and Beckley are hitting.
Thanks for a great match Snake!

Now all I remember was observing the crime, that does not make me guilty.

Re: Rumor
I am going to retract my statement that my good pal JB rang a pig. After replaying in my head the reaction of the #7 pig I think this may be what really happened. At the shot, the front leg of the pig came up off the foot pad about 1.5 inches and did two or three little bounces, wobbled a bit, then became stationary. The paint job was fresh with only two or three hits showing. His bullet must have shaved into the leg/body junction depositing much lead splatter and forcing the critter to shoot upwards. A larger diameter bullet would probably have knocked it over. (i.e. 7mm)
Instead I will call this a sloppy shot by a man desperate to snag a few more points in the last relay of the championship.
I had a few ringers also, three to be exact. One centered in the butt that should have gone down and two at the worst place, top of the front leg. This combined with my two wrong target hits and other misses made for a rather low weekend ram count.
Dave Bonner (CO) is the heavy gun regional champion 95 x 120 and Ron Bain (MO) is the hunter gun regional champion 89 x 120.
Thank you Snake, Pat O. and your super target crew for another great match. I believe this was my sixth consecutive appearance at your match and the conditions remain consistent..... just like shooting HP indoors.
See you next year.
