Marbles Tang Sight on a Henry Golden Boy .22
I have a Henry that has lived in the closet for quite a while. I had a gunsmith mount a Marbles tang sight on it and had a hard time sighting it in. I dug it out recently and remembered why it lives in the closet. It always shoots to the left. I shimmed the left side of the tang and got it shooting straight. I'm not sure if it was mounted properly as it is mounted half-way up the tang (between the tang screw and the hammer), not using the tang screw like other models I've seen.
Anyway, my chicken and pig zero is 10 full revolutions up from the bottom. I can get turkeys with one more revolution and rams with yet one more revolution. The ram setting is at the top of the tang sight range. My front sight is a Lyman 17A (17AMI I think). My delimna is the rear sight is what it is and I can't change that. Do I need a taller or shorter front sight to get to the zeros in the middle of the tang sight's range? Or, do I leave well enough alone and just shoot it the way it is?
Any help would be appreciated.

HPS,
The Lyman 17AMI measures .494." I'd go with the 17AHB, .404". This .090" difference should translate to 2 to 2 1/2 turns lower on your tang sight. This still won't get you to the center of the sight's range, but it will make the sight more serviceable

Your rear sight may not be the one designated by Marble Arms. Check marblearms.com for the recommendation for your Henry. The 0.404" high front sight is a good choice unless you need to have your eye really high above the stock.

I have the very same set up as you do. I just count the clicks up from the bottom for each distance and have a card on the stock with the click moves on it for reference. the marbles tang sight should have a windage knob on it so why you have to shim it I don't understand.

The purpose for the shimming is that apparently the sight was installed a little off center and in order to correct for windage (prior to shimming) the rear sight was adjusted all the way to the right. I tried to adjust the front sight to compensate, but that didn't work well either. The front sight was too far the left. I decided to set the front and rear sights to center and shim to level. It works okay and it shoots straight to 100 meters. I just don't like having to use the top end of the rear sight. I think I will order a shorter front sight.

I wouldn't take any more guns to that guy who mounted the sight. Its the easiest thing to do.

I ordered and installed a Lyman .404 front sight. I will take a trip to the range tomorrow to re-zero and will let you know how that works. Thanks for the help.

I finally made it back to the range to sight in my new .404 front sight by Lyman. The 0.090 lower front sight equated to 4 less revolutions on the Marbles Tang sight for the chicken zero. This is better for me as I get a better cheek weld and am working more in the middle of the rear sight range.

I'd like to know if you have the low post for your Tang sight? I'm setting up a new .22 Henry H001TLB for metallic silhouette and am not sure if a standard post is needed to sight in at 100 meters.
Edit: Marble's Gun Sights support assured me the low post is for 0-100 yards.
