1712 Magazine
I have one actual Anschutz magazine and a few Savage magazines for my 1712. They all work fine, but I prefer the Anschutz one as the plastic baseplate on it is easier to use in the rifle and in my vest pockets. I've seen people with other colored plastic bases and wondered if they would work on the Savage magazines and where they can be found to order?
Thanks,
Joe

Re: 1712 Magazine
Good question! I'd be interested in something to cover the bottom of my Savage mags too.

No Jim, they look just like the factory Anschutz. You just peal the metal base off the Savage Mag. and slide the new one on.

Re: 1712 Magazine
How do you get the base off the Savage mags so you can add the blue base pad?

The floor plate on the Savage Mags should just slide off, right now I can not remember which direction but you should be able to tell when you look at it close. I think I still have one with a Metal Floor plate on it if I do I will see if I can get a picture.

Re: 1712 Magazine
Just checked it, it will slide off either direction Just get a flat screw driver, and a mallet.
to get it started what I did was Put the Screw driver on the side "bumps" ( where the floor plate curls over the mag body.
Give it a little tap to get it moving this will open a gap and then just put the screw driver there and tap down until it pops off.

Thanks, I figured as much but thought I would ask first and maybe avoid tearing one up.

Is the tang that holds the floor plate on allready on the Wisner spring?
I assume you use a small cut off wheel to cut the groove for it in the magazine body, right?

No, I had to do that bit of engineering. I just used my Anschutz magazine spring for a model (sort of). Just be certain the end of the spring is turned out where you will be cutting the mag/base. There's plenty of spring to work with.MOTO VITA wrote: Is the tang that holds the floor plate on allready on the Wisner spring?

I felt the wheel in my Dremel kit too thick, so I used a fine toothed hacksaw blade, though I'm sure a wheel would work. I just wanted the slots cut too allow the least amount of play in the spring tab/slot fit as possible.
