A 40x40 for Tony!
Spoke to the folks at Pala, California State Cowboy Lever Match.
Congratulations to Tony Tello on his first 40x40 in Long Range Cowboy.
He snagged it during the Morning Match. Wish I had made it, but good shooting Tony

Thank every one, I followed the 40 with a 38 (10's on Chickens and Pigs).
Pala is a great place for shooting good scores, unlike Raton and other places the contrast between the targets and the background at Pala can't be beat. I posted a couple of old pictures so you can get the idea. Pala has a tendency to spoil shooters and even the ones with not very good eye sight like me do well there.

Funny, when I spot for him he does not do this well...hmmmmm.
Maybe I should stay home more often.
Anyway, great shooting Tony!

You are a very good spotter Dennis. I had two spotters today Bob and Jeanie Hershey and I did well with both of them spotting for me. The day was perfect for shooting and the wind was manageable no more than 1.5 min of wind at turkeys and rams.

Re: A 40x40 for Tony!
It looks like Tony and his team had a very nice weekend!
Here is the last part of an email I got from him:
In the SB match I shot a pair of 38 and Ryan King shot a 36 and a 38 for a fine 74. That score would have won him a championship just about any other time.
I teamed up with Ryan King and Neal Gordon who is an up an coming great shooter. We shot an aggregate score of 221 to break and set a new NRA National three man team 80 round match record. The old record was 215.
Great shooting Tony and team.
Too bad I'm going to miss the nationals with you.
I always can't be away from home over a major holiday.
Maybe, like I said, this could be a good thing!

Re: A 40x40 for Tony!
Not only did Tony shoot a perfect 40x40 and then with Ryan King and Neal Gordon set a new 80 shot 3 man team National Record but he won all three Kalifornia State Championships. He won the rifle caliber championship, the pistol caliber championship and the smallbore CLA championship.
Tony was unstoppable last weekend and I congratulate him on some amazing shooting. I watched as he shot the last target of the 40 which happened to be a turkey. My body was shaking and I wasn't the one shooting. Needless to say the target went down with a good solid hit and as they say, the rest is history.

Re: A 40x40 for Tony!
What ever accomplishments I had would not have been possible without my unselfish friends that helped me sight in rifles, spotted for me and agreed to be part of my three man team. On Thursday the day before the match PhxShooter and Bill Cole went out of their way to help me fix the rear sight of my PC rifle. For me shooting would not be as much fun if I did not have my friends to share our experiences at the matches.
They are all accomplished shooters in their own right and are more than willing to beat me every time I do not do my very best. Thank you guys.
